Based loosley on one of my favourite time travel tropes, best shown in Part One the Doctor Who Story 'The Evil of the Daleks':
Edward Waterfield, after experimenting with Time Travel in 1865 is captured by the Daleks and his house overrun. After the Daleks locate the Doctor in 1965 they send Waterfield into the future to lure the Doctor into a trap. In order to not arouse suspicion, Waterfield opens an antique shop, bringing his brand new furniture and oddments with him from 1865 and selling them as genuine antiques. He's caught out when, after inspecting a wooden deed box, the Doctor opens it to find a genuine victorian receipt for its purchase inside, with the paper in pristine condition!
