The Common Buzzard is part of the Genus Buteo, which consists of raptors including hawks. [link] In the New World (like the U.S.), buzzards are often associated with vultures and such, but in the Old World (like Europe), these are what buzzards are. So in a way, "buzzard" in Europe is "hawk" in America.
