doing some research re the 50D and sRAW mode. It looks like the 7mp sRAW mode can produce very sharp, low noise shots of better quality (res & colour) than the 30D and is in effect a 10d with 4th generation digic. The noise at ISO 3200 is vastly better on the 40D sRAW mode than the 40d full RAW at ISO 800 (although the sRAW on the 40d is only 3mp). Also the files are half the size and the buffer, write speed goes up a bit. Consensus is that the 50d at ISO 100-400 with lots of good light wil deliver the magic quality promised by canon, but after 400 or in poor light you are better off in sRAW mode - maybe even sRAW2 (4mp)for very high ISO work.

Mmm, interesting. Gone are the days of, 'ick a film, know it's limitations (print size, grain etc) and go with it'
It's all a bit much eh!

But SRaw in the canon is a great feature
