If you don't mind me saying soΒ these are a vast improvement on some of your other work. Lovely lighting and composition in both, and with much stronger colour management than in some previous pieces.Β

Feel free to take it or leave it but I'd like to make a suggestion for the lower piece (which is my favourite of the two), the lighting is great but I feel that the sources need a little boost. the points of light ought to be brighter (or hotter), Β to make them really feel like they are the light source. I mean the ceiling windows as well as the candles. I can't imagine you want to dwell on these now and probably just want to move forward, but if you can see what I mean I feel it will help on future work like this.

Are you by chance studying with Feng Zhu?

Hey, thanks for taking the time to look through my gallery! Lately, I've been studying works from artists like Darek Zabrocki, James Paick and Wojtek Fus, pretty much figuring out what makes their painting appealing and try to incorporate into my recent works.Β

I totally get what you meant, I initially wanted to increase the contrast of the lighting especially the sunlight just a little more but I felt that it'd take away the details of the interior that I wanted to show. Thanks for the tip, though, I'll definitely keep that in mind!

FZD school? Not at the moment as I wasn't qualified (i was 17 at that time, 18 was the minimum age) and besides, I didn't have a portfolio to show either. No doubt that it'll be the top of list to consider after I graduated from my diploma course in 2 year's time.

That's a great approach for sure, I am very familiar with those guys' work and I've taken a lot of inspiration from their techniques, and their great compositions! As long as you understand what it is that makes the piece, which it seems that you do. A lot of young artists get hung up on the wrong aspects such as detail and painting style, it held me back for a long time and now I have to catch up. None of it matters in concept design, good design is about communication, as long as your work does that effectively you're golden.

I'm happy to give my two cents, I feel that deviantart doesn't give that kind of feedback all too often so I try to encourage it wherever I can. Like I said take it or leave it, it's good to move forward constantly with concept art. The nature of concept art is that you'll end up throwing away 70% of your work so it's good to get used to just moving on to the next thing, it's the fastest and best way to improve!

In two years from now you might not need to go to any further schools mate, you're looking pretty strong already and you've got almost a decade on me. All of the FZD material is on youtube thanks to the incredible grace of Feng Zhu, as he says himself the only thing he doesn't put online is teaching the fundamentals of how to draw and paint, which it doesn't look like you'll need. Honestly just keep bashing away, get faster and better and you'll be ready for industry in no time!

Couldn't have said it any better! Shame that he isn't putting up content for almost a year now. I'm not sure about not pursuing further education in illustration and design but 2 years is a long time so we'll see!Β

The candles definitely makes a huge difference to the painting as it separates from the cool palette I used for the cathedral, it's one of the tricks I picked up from the tutorials I've been hoarding XD
