Reality wavers, like a stone rippling through a pond. Vertigo. Shutting my jets off, I hover, dealing with... whatever this is.
"What the heck?" I hear Callie in the T2S* circuit over the comms.
"What are you complaining about, now?" 'Nessa says to our cat.
"Didn't you feel that - "
"Feel what?" the brunette says, exasperated.
"Callie's right," I cut in. "Somethings happened." Looking down at the ship repairs, I see a partially disassembled fuel injector. Wait, that's not right! "'Nessa, what was I out here for?"
"Whatever this game is," she snaps, "I'm not in the mood - "
"Just answer the question," I plead.
"Those feline modifications on the fuel injector - " Vanessa begins.
"No," Callie interrupts. "You were repairing structural damage on the ship. The 'Quarter... I think."
"Pride of Woonsocket is her name," Vanessa says. "You guys are freaking me out."
"Callie," I ask. "What is going on. The ship is... was... the French Quarter. The ship had extensive hull damage and - "
"TDE. Temporal Displacement Event. Someone has altered reality."
"You are freaking nuts," Vanessa observes.
"Yes," Callie says dryly, "and cats are incapable of human speech. My people once had the capability of time travel before it was banned. TDEs were far too common which is why they were banned."
Closing up the panel, I add, "the 'Quarter... er... the Pride... is fixed. Are we still going to Enceladus?"
"That was the plan all along," Vanessa sighs. "An unknown distress signal."
"Right," I say, slipping through the airlock. "I'm in," I add. "Punch it!"
The Pride's engines ignite and I take several G's as the ship speeds toward Saturn**.
