When Sasuke found Naruto, the young man had already lost himself in the fragile moments that come before sleep; he lay in repose, with his eyes, half-lidded, upturned to the stars. Sasuke stepped quietly to his side, awakening Naruto from his dreamy stupor.
“Sasuke…?” the young man whispered, his voice low and unbelieving.
Naruto shifted as if to get up, but Sasuke stopped him. He moved a leg over Naruto, straddling him. Holding him in place.
I need an answer, he thought, searching Naruto’s eyes. I need to find an answer.
Naruto’s gaze glowed gently back at Sasuke. Sasuke felt his own expression soften; his answer, of course, was right before him.
