Description
Wealthy. At least it appears so. Brimming with tears, why didn't you take a cab?I would just like to take this opportunity to say my heart is with the victims and their families following the recent terrorist attacks on London.
Quite a mix of emotions on my birthday. Thank you for all the comments and favorites.
6 Train heading toward Canal Street and Little Italy after my first visit to the Met. My brother and Gretchen were with me.
Nikon N80, F/1.8 at 1/30 ISO 400.
Sharpened slightly. A lot of dust for some reason. I didn't take it all out though. The scanner is a little screwed up for some reason.

it really is almost perfect. i'm too scared to outright take photographs of strangers at this close range...but you've managed to get amazing results from it, a real insight into a person's vulnerability and humanity. i'm inspired to bravery...

bonebleached In reply to carbonhazard [2005-07-07 22:01:28 +0000 UTC]
I kind of have to disagree with you. First off, it is in the foreground, not the center. She is in the center of the picture. Secondly, the man in the foreground is completely out of focus, obviously asking the eyes to move on to a different section of the picture. Thirdly, the woman is the only person in focus, which draws all the attention to her.

carbonhazard In reply to bonebleached [2005-07-07 22:04:25 +0000 UTC]
yes but he retains enough detail even though he is out of focus to take emphasis off the lady. sure it asks the eyes to move but thats not exactly pleasing. not that all photo's should be what i consider pleasing...
i really like the photo but i didn't not wanna give critique.

This is a fantastic shot. I don't have any claim to knowledge about photography and techniques and stuff, but I guess I can appreciate good photography, and this is wonderful. I love the colours and light in it, the focus and the emotion. You've captured the moment perfectly, and whoever put that particular advertisement in that particular place was inspired

It's true about the raw emotion - I would feel a bit guilty too, but sometimes it's photographs like these that people need to see more often. People need to wake up more to what's around them.
beautiful.

I'm glad someone finally mentioned the advertisement in the back, it's placed so perfectly that it seems impossible to find something like this picture. I'm not sure if I agree with you about the tear. The tear would add something to the picture but it would also take away from the "royal pride" she seems to be holding onto even in her situation. The advertisment above her could also be insinuating that she had committed a crime or that she was the victim in a terrible crime. This picture is so perfect it seems to good to be true. I am amazed, you did such a wonderful job on this photo.

When I went to New York I had trouble with taking pictures of people. I didn't want them to freak out because I was taking a picture of them so I rarely took any shots like this.
Odd question, but how would I take a picture of a person in a public place, like a quality shot, without the problems of people getting upset because of their personal oppinions?
And a beautiful shot. Congrats on the DD.

"Has this been featured because of it's title, setting and today's terrorist attack?"
Thats what i was thinking...its so horribly fitting, im amazed people here on DA arnt talking about the events in London, it was such a disgusting and cowardly act...Still at least this photo pays tribute to those affected, Whether it was intended or not...

This is just amazing. Everything about the photograph is wonderful, her expression, her clothing, the perfect skin on an obviously aged face. The subject couldn't have been better and I believe tha the lack of actual tears makes the photograph better. It leaves something to think about.

after todays happenngs in london...which i happen to live in.
there is a solemn feeling/aura in this picture; that man in the foreground with his head bowed low, the woman with her eyes closed in a sad poise, the rest of the passengers with their backs towards us.
reflects the situation of today.
