Yes, pencils. My first real attempt with 6B, so I went a little nuts. I mainly used this drawing as practice.
If what my friend wants me to do next is possible, expect something kinda fucked up! LoL

No, no aliens here. I noticed how it was easy for people to mistake the early horns as eyes and the brow for a grin. The nose, a tongue... shading killed that .

I used to draw in pencil (or is it charcoal?), but then i moved on to pen, found out it was more my thing than anything else (had too much trouble with drawings getting ruined due to smudging, so i took up something more permanent)
in anycase, man, i wish i could draw with such good anatomy (i too am self taught, i just progress slower than some, i think i make progress by the year).
damn, i really like those horns on his head, nicely done!

Thanks a lot, dude. Yeah, it's pencil. The first time i used the softer leaded 6B's I was very afraid of smearing them all over the place. The lead is so soft, yu can draw on skin and it is very difficult to erase once it's been applied to the paper.
If you want to use pencil and not worry about smudges, seek out some 4B pencils. They have a hard lead and only leave light lines. Then once you have a decent idea of what you are doing go over them with a standard No.2 pencil.
6B's are only for heavier shading and are very helpful. I'm glad my friend gave me one.
As for what Channy said, It's all good. She is just helping me to increase in skill. We spoke of it in private and discussed bettering our techniques. So expect me to get even better in my next one.
Don't worry about how slow or fast you are progressing. Just knowing that you are is all that matters in the end. Thanks a lot. See ya around.

smudging is fudging as a teacher once told me. try using line to create tone.

One must keep in mind, I am self taught, so I am practicing with as many techniques as possible. Plus it's all a matter of personal preference. Some folk like the way it looks.

Ahhhhh, yes! Hatching and cross-hatching. I thought this was what you were leaning towards. I have dabbled in these areas before but not to any true extent. I will be doing this some more in my spare time.
