Description
This is a series of three photos shot in secession (Tryptych). Each photo is displayed in a different colour variation to represent a unique style or feeling portrayed in Muse's Resistance Album.---
The Resistance is, and probably always will be, the only album I have paid for three times.
Muse caught my eye a few years back with Black Holes and Revelations. I find their style to be unique and exquisite; the notes are long, easy to hold, and the vibratos are very artistic and catchy making it perfect to sing along to. My sister had me listen to The Resistance and I fell in love and promptly purchased my own copy from iTunes. Then I bought the physical CD and vinyl versions for the album art.
My all time favourite book is 1984 by George Orwell, so when I heard this album I practically had a heart attack. It was like Muse had written a soundtrack specifically for my favourite book. The imagery is extremely strong, suggesting a world where governments hold too much control and the people have to come together as one ('we're not droplets in the ocean' but as one they are a massive wave; prolls) to overpower the 'fat cats.' Muse also uses lyrics regarding 'Love' as being their resistance. In 1984, Julia and Winston do the same thing, using love as a means of revolt against Big Brother.
My favourite track is United States of Eurasia because of the subtle imagery used throughout the song and at the end with the children playing. A very imperialistic tune is played after mentioning the United States, suggesting their power and corrupt motives. At the end, you can hear children laughing, but then the jet comes and you faintly hear one of the children, probably a girl, scream. I know it's not specific enough to form a solid conclusion, but to me this represented World War II when the bombs had been dropped over Japan. The jet flies over, the girl screams, and then the next track begins with a very sudden impact that represents the bomb going off. This track has brought me to tears because of its sheer emotional power and beauty.
Not only has Muse created a unique musical experience, they are also on the cutting edge of bold graphics that are timeless and vibrant. The album artwork for The Resistance is very iconic; the hexagonal pattern creating a swirl of colours that lead the eye to the Earth and man.
Most albums I listen to have tracks that I skip over; The Resistance does not. I have never skipped a track while listening to this album. I feel like I could talk for hours about this album because it has so much subtle imagery worked into its composition.

It originally was the three iterations of the center photo, but then I decided to dig through my camera again and find the series of shots I rattled off while trying to find the perfect angle. Luckily there was a shot before and after that allowed me to complete the series :3

This photo is so wonderful ! And accurate !
I love Muse, and the pictures absolutely convey the feelings felt while listening to The Resistance.
1984 is also my most favourite book... The album and the book go hand in hand... They fit so perfectly.

The first photo really reminds me ofthe mood of Uprising, Unnatural Selection and MK Ultra. Like conspiracy, fight and revolution... The second one to me is The Resistance... that desolation feeling, but there's still hope. And The last one, Exogenesis Symphony. Everything begins in nothing and in the end fades away.... Black and white...
That's what I think, I nay be very wrong lol
You had such an awesome and strong experience with The Resistance! I can't even compare mine to yours and I really like this album. Muse, they're very inspirational, poetic and smart... unlike most of the bands and musicians today.

Thank you so much for your amazing comment! You're right, perhaps the different colour grading choices were some sort of a subconscious decision that related to the different moods of the album during its progression. Muse has some amazing compositional talent going into its songs along with a healthy dose of meaningful lyrics. Every time I listen to the album, I end up discovering something new.

Very cool. Love the composure. Also impressed that you actually called this a triptych... so few people are educated about art history these days
