"Mario has a lot of work cut out for him. During a vacation to Isle Delfino, Mario discovers via Cappy that something foul is afoot. Some of the Princess' of the various kingdoms he visited during the first game, as well as new princesses, were captured and trapped in paintings by a mysterious force. Cappy's sister, though not a princess, was one of the captors because she sacrificed herself so that Cappy could escape. With Bowser swearing that it wasn't him, and with 10 princess' to save, Mario has to go around the kingdoms of the Odyssey again, collecting power moons, solving the locals' problems, capture some new enemies, visit some old and new kingdoms, and figure out who captured the princesses before his own disappears."

Princess Willow is the former princess of the Ruined Kingdom before it was, well, ruined by a dragon. She often tends the destroyed gardens with her powers of plant growth. Legends say that she's a ghost of the former queen of this kingdom, but Willow insists that she's just the daughter of the queen and just wants to tend to the garden in order to show respect to her fallen kingdom. When Mario rescues her, Willow is seen to be very shy, as she can't speak to him at first and just runs away. When you catch up to her, however, she vanishes, maybe proving those theories right after all....

Princess Carni, short for Carnivore, is the princess of the lost kingdom. Carni speaks like a stereotypical caveman, but she doesn't act like one, and is actually pretty modern in her mannerisms. All she wants is to make her kingdom great again, but without the resources to build a ship resistant to poison, all she can do is just rule her kingdom and go to the peace conventions. When Mario finds her, she gives him a huge bear hug, causing Mario to feel extreme discomfort, all while Carni is none the wiser. However, Carni does mention an important tidbit as she lets go, which is the next boss kingdom that Mario needs to go to.
