Description I used the Military Super boomgts.deviantart.com/art/The... boomgts.deviantart.com/art/Mil... for a little Dpeth of Field Test (makes everything that the camera isn't pointing at blurry and out of focus). I never messed with the effect since it slows renders down and is easily added in Photoshop, but it was a lot less tedious.

Hmm... She sure looks big. I get the impression that big blue would go to somewhere around her knee. But then with her military training I bet she knows that change the size of others trick...
Let's hope they don't call in this national guard to clean their mess up. πŸ˜‰

Azure's normal size would probably be around her knee but she can potentially grow bigger to stand face to face most likely. I have a plaaaan for the military character (like her knowing all the tricks and having the best powers thanks to her training) but I'm not sure when to do it and still need a couple of props before it'll feasible (like a military base.)Β

IΒ hope you manage it somehow, I really like to see what you'll do with her. She's a nice shift in the breeze. Not just that her trim physique is a different kind of perfect from the more voluptous forms of the girls so far, but she seems to mean business and not play around in goofy costumes, which will make for a change of pace.

My problems with her being that she is military. Meaning that she elimnates threats she doesn't play catch and spank her opponents as the police does.
For this reason you don't put military to deal with civilians, becaue that alwys ends badly, which the history of every time that has been tried proves.
The second stemmng from the same tree; Why would the militay be the bad guys?

I'm sure you'll have some awesome idea though, which is why I raly want to see this, not just because of the awesome, but also because it is outside my box.

Well, the military could be "bad guys" from their perspective. Vigilantes are technically illegal so all of the good Supers are technically law breakers, good or bad. That's not exactly the reason I'd have them go after the main cast chased by the military though.

Bah, bumpely! I just got a pic of this beauty in my suggestions and recalled this. Please say it's not forgotten. I still think your super series is the best and this seemed awesome as well as mentioned before.

BoomGTS In reply to Throku [2017-08-26 01:04:31 +0000 UTC]

It's probably forgotten. The Super Series was originally going to take a turn and become a more serious continuous (and very convoluted) adventure with this chick as an antagonist, but after a few years I decided I'd rather keep it so each comic is fun and self contained.

Yeah I hear ya, I kind of like the non canon approach, everything being a spin. But that doesn't mean she or some other protagonist couldn't make an appearance in blueberry district for one of those one off spins right?

I'm trying to use a depth of field with a character easily as large, but I can't seem to get it to focus correctly. Β Got any advice?

You can't get it to focus? What do you mean?

MadDemon64 In reply to BoomGTS [2013-08-30 11:57:04 +0000 UTC]

Also, sorry if I asked this already and forgot the answer, what are you using to render the scenes? Β Is it in Daz3d with certain shaders, a program other than Daz3d, or a combination of both? Β I'm always trying to improve the quality of my renders but there are somethings that I just can't figure out.

MadDemon64 In reply to BoomGTS [2013-08-30 11:53:04 +0000 UTC]

It just dawned on me that I shouldn't try to make the camera fit the giant character and that I should shrink the character and props to fit the camera. Β Is that the answer?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BoomGTS In reply to MadDemon64 [2013-08-30 19:51:15 +0000 UTC]

The camera's size doesn't really do anything. I mean... I just lined up the camera as I always do, turned on depth of field, and it worked! This is the only time I've ever used it. Perhaps you're overthinking it? It was 90% automatic and just made the thing in the center of the picture not blurry.Β

MadDemon64 In reply to BoomGTS [2013-08-30 20:40:12 +0000 UTC]

I believe I am. Β I'm going to shrink the characters/props and keep them in scale with eachother and see if that works.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BoomGTS In reply to MadDemon64 [2013-08-31 00:35:05 +0000 UTC]

That shouldn't be necessary. If it doesn't work could I see an example of what the problem is?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MadDemon64 In reply to BoomGTS [2013-08-31 01:55:05 +0000 UTC]

It worked. Β You can see an example of what shrinking everything down and keeping scale on my main page (you can't miss it, it's the giant demon girl on the right).

Thanks. Β While we are talking, do you have any advice on how to improve the quality of my renders, like what shaders to add to my characters and stuff? Β I usually just add in characters and sometimes tweak their maps/mats/textures but that's it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BoomGTS In reply to MadDemon64 [2013-08-31 18:17:10 +0000 UTC]

That's essentially what I do as well (with the textures). We're pretty much on the same page knowledge-wise so I don't think I can't offer you too much useful advice. =w=

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

MadDemon64 In reply to BoomGTS [2013-08-30 11:16:45 +0000 UTC]

I mean that I have to put the camera so far away that depending on the light, there are nasty black lines that appear all over the body, and everything is in focus.

Either that there are no black lines, but nothing is in focus. Β Either way I can't get the camera to focus on giant characters the same way it can focus on regular characters and make objects in the for/background blurry and out of focus. Β Maybe I should send you a picture?

I find DOF quite useful, and like to use it whenever I have the rendertime to spare. And I agree it gives a better effect used with the rendering engine than post.

BoomGTS In reply to TinyZen [2013-07-21 17:32:49 +0000 UTC]

Oh I actually said it was easier, not entirely better. ^-^' I'm sure the professionals would never do it by hand if it was worse than having the computer do it for them.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TinyZen In reply to BoomGTS [2013-07-21 17:50:49 +0000 UTC]

I quite like it myself. And, since I'm one of the not professionals I can no doubt achieve better results when the engine does the work for me, than when I need some better skills to make it.

Tiny-Mk [2013-07-19 09:59:05 +0000 UTC]

Good test!
I love the DOF effect, especially in GTS pictures, because it gives a better sense of the scales and depth.
This is why I try to use it whenever it's appropriate.

PS: it's true, you can add it in post production, but in this way it will never be as smooth and realistic like the render engine.
So, I definitely prefer to have to deal with "f-stop", "focal lenght", "shutter speed" and longer render times, rather than have to trick the pictures in order to make them look a little better.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BoomGTS In reply to Tiny-Mk [2013-07-19 18:10:15 +0000 UTC]

Well if you set it up with post production in mind, its pretty easy to just use the magic want and select everything that isn't supposed to be in-focus, separate them into different layers, and then work on each one one at a time. Gives you slight more control over what should be in focus and what shouldn't be, although my gawd is that tedious. Much easier this way.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Tiny-Mk In reply to BoomGTS [2013-07-20 06:59:34 +0000 UTC]

I see your point, and I have to say that I used this technique in the past, but I have realized that setting up a pic just for post production, in order to make it work with layers is really booooring.. And not exactly what I want XP

So In the end, I found that by playing with camera parameters, I have the full control over realistic DOF effects without have to care about the post production.

Anyway.. These are just my thoughts..

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BoomGTS In reply to Tiny-Mk [2013-07-20 15:38:46 +0000 UTC]

I hear a lot of professional 3D artists say post production work is how you really make a render look pretty/real. I always imagined that's how Seth got most of his renders to look really pretty since his credits always say Poser + Photoshop. So I think it's still worth knowing how to do a little PPW.

Tiny-Mk In reply to BoomGTS [2013-07-20 16:05:09 +0000 UTC]

Of course!

I was just saying that I prefer to not use it for DOF.. not that I do not want to use it at all.
