Maybe you should have used a radial gradient from white in the center to a darker colour as background. That would emphasize the snowflake way better. It looks kinda pale with just white around it.
Anyway, I might be talking crappy english today. Hope you get what I mean.

Where's the problem, then? Take the gradient that makes a circle with foreground-to-background- gradient (or the other way round), define white (or a light gray) as the foreground and a dark colour (whichever you like) as the background and then you draw the gradient on a layer below the fractal. It's as easy as that.
