Description Fan art from the book series I have been reading, The Obernewtyn Chronicles x] I'd be interested to know if any of you have read it? They are awesome books, but relatively obscure I think :c
This scene is from a chapter in the sixth book, The Sending... anyway won't give too much away, but these two are "dream/spirit forms" of a man and woman in the book, Elspeth and Rushton...

Really wanna try and branch out a bit more in 2012... as much as I love it there's only so far Disney copied style can get you in life XD This proved to be a challenge for me, the woman anyway... I want to keep pushing myself out of my comfort zone artwise 8P lots to improve on if I wanna try and make a career out of my art!

Edit: 2/2/2012 - fixed some things that have been nagging at me
Edit: 20/1/2013 - and again ^^

Sorry, yes, forgot to add Elspeth has black hair which I know is a lot more difficult to draw and I think Rushton was also a black bear.

Thanks a lot! C: I think I was trying to get the natural Part in fur that sometimes occurs (like here for example: [link] ) But now you pointed it out I think I made it a little too dark/prominent...And on the hair, you might be right but I drew them how I imagine them in my head XD In my head Elspeth always had dark brown hair haha... thanks for the critique!

I love what you have done with Rushton and Elspeth. You are an amazing artist. Just a few things, I'm not sure really about the anatomy of a bear but it kinda looks like he has a seam down the middle.

This is gorgeous. Having read the books I think your Rushton is probably a little too cutesy for this scene but I love the detailing in the fur and Elspeth's feet are particualrly well done as well.

I love this bear though. Thinking of the movie Brother Bear and the Raymond Briggs book and film 'The Bear' which is about a polar bear who makes its way to its home in the arctic. Got both of them on dvd too.

The detailing on that fur... O_O
I feel old that I'm about to say this line now.. but I understand what you mean about wanting to branch out
I never used to get it when I was younger when people on TLKFAA used to say that they felt it was time to branch out from Lion King and leave the archive.. yet now I've grown up myself, I'm feeling the same way too! To me, you've never really draw in a 'Disney style' anyway; your artwork's always had your own unique style to it, which set you apart, and made you one of my favourite artists back in 2008! I've always been a little bit jealous if I'm honest
You should have no major trouble in moving onto other things in the art world with your talent
As for me, and my attempt at moving on from Disney/Lion King style; thanks to all these years drawing literally nothing but Lion King, and never trying anything else, I'm f***ed!
Keep up all your amazing art Boo!

aww ;u; haha yeah I was always the same about that topic, though I don't ever really see myself formally "leaving" TLKFAA, I guess I will (and have been) gradually begin to upload less but it's a place I will probably always drift back to with fond memories XD Honestly I feel really flattered reading this comment <3 thanks a bunch and also if it helps any I know that feeling about being trapped under one disipline artwise, but just gotta push through it, cause I know you've got the right stuff

Human anatomy is the most fascinating and most frustrating part of art in general and drawing in specific. This isn't bad for starters, in fact it's quite good. Every artist out there, no matter how "cartoony" or abstract their style happens to be needs more life drawing. This is usually a class where you stand around (it's easier to move around that way) and look at a model (nude or with a body stocking on) and draw different aspects of what you see.
Now to get into a real life drawing class requires two things usually, beyond the cost of the class. The first you have, A portfolio that shows your obvious talent. The second (and this is where so many of these "fan" artists fall apart) is a degree of discipline and maturity, which it seems to me anyhow that you also have, given the time and dedication also very obvious in your work.
Take some of your work to the nearest college or university. Ask to speak to the instructor who runs the life drawing courses. After looking at your work, they ought to be able to find some way to let you participate. You might also need the permission of your parents (because I don't know what your age is, and I'm too polite to ask.) I merely say so for others who might be reading this, and wish to do the same thing. It will be somewhat different for you and more of a challenge, but I think you have what it takes to do so very well. Give yourself a gift of time and effort that will make your work all the more stunning. I can truthfully say that you deserve it. Please be encouraged and keep up the good work!

I was looking into life drawing classes a couple months ago so I could have some to show in my portfolio for my university application... I ran out of time to organise that but I'm happy to say I got in anyway! Next month I will be starting a university course in Graphic Design... I'm hoping I will have the opportunity to attend a life drawing class as part of my course but if it isn't included I'm certainly planning to look a little further into it whether it be sitting in with the fine arts students or finding out if they offer them anywhere else in the town I'm moving to it would be a great opportunity to dust up a bit, really wanting to improve on human anatomy this year ^^ Thank you for your helpful advice once again!

Waow! 8O Absolutely amazing! "Butt me no buts", dear Boo XDDD *starts singing* "Beauuuuuuty and the beeeeeeeaaaaast..." X)
I donΒ΄t know how hazardous it mustΒ΄ve been for you working on the bearΒ΄s fur, but I bet that when it comes to the girl, the most tedious part was her (so beautiful) hair, both in haircut and colouring, wasnΒ΄t it? I wish one day I could see a self-portrait cartoon of yours, Boo (not necessarily posing like this girl, though! Ahem! XDD)

haha, well I thought that it would be so with the hair, but It was easier then I'd thought, what I had miscaculated was how easy painting skin would be for one so used to fur! XD Still not 100% happy with it, but I am hoping I will learn And I'd like to get a little better at people before attempting a self portrait XD or uploaded one at least.. thanks for the compliments amigo!

Noses are amazing.
Anyway! About those books! Written by Isabel Carmody am I right?
I tried to read them, I really did. But the first book took me a while to get into. So I dropped it and I haven't been reading since. And that was a month ago. The library lady suggested the books to me and said that they were great! I imagine them to be, but it just get bored to easily.
well, good luck with your artistic exploration! 8'D
