this is pretty cool, but my nerd side can't help but point out that a yellow lightsaber signifies a jedi who left the order but is not necessarily of the dark side. A red lightsaber would be the first requirement on a sith uniform, as proof that your allegiance is to the dark side.

But the color still looks pretty epic on the outfit, I have to say. Mybe so the "real" sith could show their supperiority in the dark side by humiliating non-force users.

... seriously? You honestly think that? A yellow saber (though it looks somewhat green to me) in no way signifies a jedi who left the order. Bastilla Shan used a yellow saber while still in the order.

The choice of blade colour is purely a coincidence; crystals are selected due to associated properties (different lengths, a hotter beam, ect). The reason that red sabers are so common is that, traditionally, sith use synthetic crystals, which start out red, and see no reason to switch the colour of the crystal. However, if they were so inclined, they could use alchemical treatments to get a blue crystal.

In other words, blade colour does not signify allegiance. All it signifies is the colour of your crystal, and blade colour is, indeed, rarely selected outside the New Jedi Order (who prefer not to use Red sabers due to the connection with the Sith, and thus treat their sabers to some other colour).

You have been out star wars geeked.

Also, good depiction of Noobis.

Seriously? I thought that was just the Old Republic. I mean, I know Sith use a bunch of colors, like orange, yellow, etc. it's just really rare to see a sith with, say, a blue lightzaber.

But I know I read somewhere about that yellow crystal thing. Maybe it was a fanfic or something?
weird... And I thought it was true all along.

Wise one, I bow to your superior geekdom.

In the time of the movies, given crystals are chosen due to availability. Earlier, Saber crystals were to be found all through the galaxy. Somewhere in between (I would have to check, but I think it was related to one of Banes Sith) more of the esoteric cyrstal locations were destroyed, limiting it to the highly common Adegan crystals (which manifest most common as blue and green). And the yellow crystal is probably fannon due to its rarity in the Jedi Order, but its probably rare all through the galaxy by the time of Phantom Menace, and unable to be found at all (due to Palpatines complete destruction of the remaining natural crystals) by and beyond Empire.

And the reason that its rare to see a sith with a blue saber is due to the associated connotations with Red (red is the colour of blood, anger, several war gods, ect). Also, like I said, there is rarely a reason to further alter the synthetic crystal. When they do, they probably choose a non traditional Jedi colour as a form of self identification (due to the usual hatred of the Jedi). The NJO would usually alter the crystal to prevent being associated with the Sith, who don't alter to prevent being associated with the Jedi. See where this is going?

yeah, that's hat I thought. The Sith could use any color they want, but are naturaly drawn to red.

anyway thanks for the info. I guess I need to do a lot more digging!

also... in the KOTOR games it says that each color signifies the Jedi's ablities, like Sentinels, Guardians, etc. They are still free to choose, and it does depend on availability, but it's not like any Jedi has any color lightzaber, theres more meaning to it.

That's the theory. But its never really practiced. Infact, Guardians, Sentinels, and Consulars were created in such incarnations specifically for the game. While the titles existed in other media, they were far more general than the hard and fast rules of the game (consulars were the more diplomatic Jedi, but they were also usually older, and the guardians were the more aggressive Jedi, but were also usually younger, implying that the title was simply a description and could eaisly be done without). However, the colours were specifically developed for the game. There is no account of restriction of colours or even of the Jedi being given a crystal (most padawans back then would go out to a cave with their master, search around for a bit, and decide on one). Infact, I believe the usage of Guardian, Sentinel, and Consular fell out of usage within a few years after the Kotor games (probably when the Jedi Order was recreated by the Exiles students).

That's cool. Thanks for the info, you are clearly more knowledgeable than I am about this, but I still feel like I read it somewhere, like one of the comics. Maybe it was soat a certain time period, or it was more of a generalization?
anyway, nevermind that then.
