Besides being the new token girl following Ash in the BW arc of the anime, the only other reason I can think of is that she's a kid calling Ash a kid when he can't win some of his Pokemon battles, when she herself has a Pokemon that doesn't even listen to her commands (that is until way later when things change, i think).
