Ru, was an unwilling volunteer to undergo an ancient ritual that would transform her physically and bestow unto her the mental conditioning required to fill the role since no foxes could be found, and one would be needed before the next sunrise.
Her memories would stay intact, but her instincts would not
As changes began to take hold and she lost the ability to speak, she could only wonder to herself if there was even a way to reverse these changes if they found a real fox.
