The Image above was acquired via the Battlestar Galactica: War of the Colonies mod for Star Wars: Empire at War - Forces of CorruptionDisclaimer: The information below is not to be considered canon in Battlestar Galactica Lore and represents part of a "what-if" head canon scenario in my mind for an alternate universe, similar to the one created as the backstory for the "Battlestar Galactica: War of the Colonies" mod.
The 2CW Universe (Second Cylon War) is a what-if scenario where the initial surprise attack on the Colonies is mostly thwarted but not enough to prevent certain events from happening, like Laura Roslin becoming President via succession for example. The universe uses information from the series, Blood & Chrome, and Deadlock as well as several other fan works for inspiration.

"The Cylons must be desperate if they're throwing these old flying discs at us." - Admiral Nagala
History:
First appearing roughly a month into the Second Cylon War, the Cronos Class Light Basestar is often viewed by the Colonial Fleets as a ship made out of desperation by the Cylons. The Cronos first appeared in small numbers defending Cylon space from Colonial encroachment following the initial attack on the Twelve Colonies. It's believed that the Cylons developed this ship as a means of rapidly deploying a smaller and cheaper Basestar model to meet Colonial forces in battle as they develop newer ships. Some intelligence suggests that the Cronos class is in fact a completely new vessel, just based off of existing Cylon designs for its proven reliability. Colonial Intelligence hasn't yet agreed as to whether the Cronos class represents an act of desperation or is simply a return to basics on the Cylons' part.
Regardless, the Cronos Class has proven itself a dangerous new addition to the Cylon Fleet, and should not be taken lightly.
Technical Information:
The Cronos Class Light Basestar represents a strange step backwards in Cylon warship design and development. While most modern Cylon designs focus more on long-range offensive capabilities, the Cronos returns to more conventional combat means as it is armed with twenty heavy gun batteries, evenly distributed around its hull on its dorsal and ventral sides while it is also armed with a hundred point defense CIWS batteries similarly distributed around its hull. However the Cronos is not completely backwards as, in keeping with more modern Cylon tactics, it's armed with at least a hundred missile tubes for long-range offenses, with its gun batteries being reserved for if the enemy gets close enough to begin exchanging fire.
The Cronos appears to have been built using the separated halves of the older Cylon Basestars from the First Cylon War, only heavily retrofit to feature their new armaments and more modern Cylon technology such as heavily networked systems and a hybrid. The Cronos uses more traditional armored hulls in addition to an under layer of organic resin present on the newer Cylon Basestars. Like the older Baseships, the Cronos Class is in a constant horizontal spin, typically in a clockwise direction although it can spin in either direction or stop rotation altogether while recalling its Raider compliments. Like with the older Basestars, this allows the Cronos to constantly keep its armor facings from being focused on by larger ships while also allowing its missile tubes to constantly be rotated into optimum firing positions. Also in keeping with more modern Cylon tactics, the Cronos also carries a large contingent of Raiders but in a departure from the older Basestar models, it utilizes the hive-like docking ports referred to as "Toast Racks" by the Colonials, to carry and deploy its Raiders. It does have five smaller runways for its Heavy Raiders though.
The Cronos class appears built for withstanding heavy punishment while dishing out some punishment of its own, and often appears filling the role of an assault cruiser, unafraid of getting in close and personal with Colonial Warships. The Cronos Class is equipped with a tactical FTL, similar to the ones used on the old Phobos Tech Cruisers of the First Cylon War, allowing it to jump short distances. Interestingly, the Cronos more often than not has been seen using this tactical jump capability to intercept ordinances meant for more fragile warships, putting themselves directly into the line of fire, acting as literal shields with their more durable armored hull. The Cronos does not appear equipped with the formidable Cyber Warfare Suites common to the Cylon forces, or at least doesn't use it, as the vessel is indeed more Offense focused like the old Revenant and Cerastes Gunships of the First Cylon War.
The Cronos doesn't seem to have any particular weakness short of its smaller size and has proven to be a formidable foe against Colonial forces. The Cronos represents the Cylons' ability to adapt to using older and more proven tactics as well as more conventional means of combat as opposed to their over reliance on longer ranged ordinances and swarms of Raiders to fight the Colonials.
