It was an otherwise insignificant day. Naturally, neither of them would remember this brief encounter.

There was a Bring Your Daughter to Work Day held at Aperture right before GLaDOS took over. But I thought I saw some boy names on the science projects and that those projects were submitted some time before BYDTWD.

Chell made the crazy overgrown potato plant, I made sure to look at the names on all the projects.
Poor GLaDOS, first Chell kills her, then shes doomed to potato form because of Chell's science project.

The lyrics of the Turret Opera at the end of the game seem to insinuate that Caroline was Chell's mother....though all the "My baby girl" and "my darling" stuff could have just been a means of patronizing Chell, but the overall tone of the song didn't really feel that way to me. Who knows. ^^ Maybe Valve will explain it one day!
