Zara, was no soldier, she was a a lecturer. the youngest in her field. Highly intelligent and a fast learner, she speaks nearly all the major European languages and has a reasonable grasp of Cantonese too. When war called on 🇺🇦 Ukraine 🇺🇦 she like many other citizens of her beautiful home answered the call. Attached to a forward communications unit, she was responsible for intercepting and deciphering Russian communications. Her unit of 20, was ambushed and a short but brutal firefight broke out. the Russian troops were forced back but called in an artillery strike on their position. That was the last thing she remembered before everything turned to light and heat. when she came too from the the blasts she found a medic by her side working quickly while also firing his weapon at something in the distance. He told her his name and unit, but her ears were ringing and she couldn't make out whether he said Martin or Marcin and something about Manchester irregulars. she tried to sit up but her legs wouldn't respond. Then the medic, whose name she couldn't make out, injected her with a strong painkiller. she almost immediately fell asleep. Zaras' injuries were so serious that she was given a 3% chance of survival. she endured a right trans-pelvic amputation (hemipelvectomy) and a left hip disarticulation (amputation through the hip joint) as well as internal bleeding. she was awarded the distinguished service cross by the Ukrainian government and now works for them advising on communications deemed vital to the war effort. she is also deeply thankful to the combat medic who's ministrations on the battlefield, undoubtedly saved her life.
