Most are aware I am taking pictures generally, but might not know that I'm taking their picture specifically.
If you walk into an area with a camera in your hand you will be ignored after a few minutes. People will only be suspicious if you act suspiciously, you know?

most of my street shots are hip shots unless i am in a big tourist area and there are lots of cameras. Or, i take a decoy, someone who pretends to be the subject so i can get a close up candid. Some of the places i go, they don't like cameras.

Taiwan is the home of flying lanterns. The aboriginals used to use them to send warnings to other villages when Japanese troops were approaching and now you can go to some places and make them yourself. You write your CNY wish on the outside, light some dry grass on the inside, then let it go. It's very beautiful.
Some other places have copied the tradition since it has become popular here (as with other popular things Taiwanese, like bubble tea), but it's still practiced here with a lot of people every year.

Taipei has an International Lantern contest, too. Not as beautiful or cultural, but still interesting.
