Description
Here's another piece Ive had the pleasure of working on for Bungie.I figure its pretty safe to post this low res version since its been on the internet for months.
The one was for an EDGE magazine cover and interior double-page spread, it was an enormous piece to work on clocking in at about 5700 pixels wide.
Some of the background was intentionally left amorphous and loose to accomodate letterhead, I also had to use a cut and paste paint overs on the guns and helicopter due to time contraints (4 days to finish the approved sketch) but the rest was exhaustedly hand-drawn.
Having to do paintovers is something I really hate doing but when it comes to commercial work all bets are off; its not about your unique voice and vision anymore its about delivering what a client expects and has contracted you to do.
Enjoy!

it literally feels like my eyes pop and get sucked unto the screen. its nearly not healthy to look at it, it really causes heavy action in the brain.
damn interesting, do you achieve that just with bothering much unto layering objects into an effective rrangement and the effect of blur and sharpness ???
argh this is getting way too erotic for my visual cortex.

I draw on about 3 layers max, but yeah a lot of it is selecting certain areas and blurring them and then tossing a unsharpen mask on the whole thing after I adjust the global saturation and contrasts.
Glad you dig it

thanks so much for sharing mister erm.. cryptcrawler XD
do you recommend using the damn lasso often ? I get weird feelings about it. its so unprecise at a blurred brush (partially painting outside the lasso in tiny bits) that I often wonder how the programs actually interprete selections..

looks really great, but also it looks really clean, as you said in your description... as the client expects.
Have you ever thought about repainting it with your complete own style?

I know I say this all the time, but the detail and accuracy of your renderings is breathtaking. The angling of the floor and balance of lighting is really dynamic.
Did you use any 3D models as reference material for this? You've completely nailed the perspective on the figures, and I can only imagine how difficult it must be, given the myriad of angular forms that make up their armour.
You've really knocked the ball out of the park with this one!

I had to use 3d on the guns and copter but the rest is hand-drawn, I really had no choice.
Guns and vehicles are very nuts and bolts and extremely time consuming and when you have to produce iconic commercial work for a client like Bungie's Halo IP in 4 days - theres no other way.
Im glad you like it so much thanks!

I love your photography and I really admire your generosity with your stock work as well, really kind of you.
I also love the razor-sharp sense of humor, wit and fierce independence you commonly show in your journals - I like your fire.
