can i ask you a technical question? did you build up those textures with a soft ground? or did you use a hard ground and just plan out all your line and spot work?
your blacks are so black that it almost looks like a very fine aquatint. just curious about your process if you don't mind sharing.

Today, when I heard heath ledger died, I thought about this deviation and the fact that I saw it the day before he died...it felt so weird and sad

I wonder if I'm the only one as shocked in the static of this. You see, I'll be honest, today is my birthday. And this came up during the middle of my dinner at my favorite restaurant with close friends and closer friends. That he was dead. And all day, I mean every moment, I had been excited for once about the day of my birth. That was odd enough...
I am a major fan and idol of the Batman comics. Joker has to be my favorite villain of all time and Batman is one of the few ridiculous, fictional idols I have. In my mind, playing either character is bid shoes to fill. And for once, I was really anxious to see Heath play the character, in the commercials he seemed to do a better take on the insanity than Jack Nicholson did in the first Batman film. So to see an actor crash, burn, down deep into the dirt back into a history that will fold and wrinkle over his image, a man to play a character I love and on my birthday, it feels beyond odd. I don't quite understand, but it touches a slightly vulnerable nerve.
This is an absolutely beautiful etching, probably one of the most impacting ones because of the technique you went with to create a beautiful texture for the portrait. I imagine the Joker to be a man with a scribbled, scrambled mind that makes him not even focus before your very eyes. That his energy is so chaotic, the sight of him is uncontrollably vibrating, a patternless pulse that makes you realize that shivers are crawling your spine at the very sight of him. The feel of him.
*Shrugs.* That's what I get for a wild imagination.

This is a really interesting piece. Gotta feel weird having your DD dampened by Ledger's death.
I really feel sorry for the Ledger's daughter, to tell you the truth... That's a shitty thing to put on your kid.

Too bad, the guy was a talented actor. Why do we lose such a talent while useless individuals like Dane Cook still get to breathe?

Unfortunate for Heath's daughter, but to give a bit of perspective, you know who else died today? About 500 civilians in Darfur.
