Description
I'm not a criminal
I'm not the villain
Yeah, this is personal
A drive-by killing
Your guns are loaded
And your lies are the bullets
So here is the trigger
Go ahead and pull it, now
Are you sure you wanna play this game?
Are you sure you wanna play it?
The only thing worse than a hater
The only thing worse than a hater
Is a traitor, a traitor, a traitor
You put the knife right in my back,
Killed any history we had
And now it's war, war
We were just like brothers
And we had each other
We were down for the good times
We were there for the trouble
Like a thief in the night
Broad daylight
You stole my sanity
Now you are the enemy
Daughtry - "Traitor"
Ever since Cadfael and Sairah were born, Roxy had changed for the worse. Nobody was exactly sure whether the birth was the reason for her behavioral issues or Damian being gone. Maybe a combination of both.
After the twins were weaned and started their own training, Roxana was scheduled to work under saddle again. During the first riding sessions she behaved like an unbroken three year old. Sheila had to deal with countless bruises and scratches, because the Zlesdin would buck like a bull gone wild. Eventually she kind of calmed down, but it certainly wasn't a joy to ride her anymore...
"Don't you think you should wear a helmet Shay?" Lillian asked when she saw Sheila warming up Roxy in the outdoor arena without wearing a riding helmet.
"She is way calmer now, Lillian. I'm annoyed by the helmet. It is just too hot under that thing."
Lillian rolled her eyes and shook her head. She knew she wouldn't be able to get Sheila to listen.
"Besides, she loves jumping, so this won't be a problem." Sheila added, grinning.
Much to her surprise, Roxana did not jump though. The mare refused every single time. Even when Lillian lowered the poles to ground level, Roxy would not jump over them.
What Sheila didn't notice, was the mare's mood slowly worsening. Every time she stopped in front of the jump, her ears went a little way back until they were almost pinned flat to her skull.
Lillian noticed how the Zlesdin started to swish her tail constantly and pawed the ground. The mare had never done that before, at least not under saddle.
"Sheila, give her a break. You shouldn't overdo it, maybe she needs more time to get back on track."
"One more time Lia, I'll take the whip."
She took a short whip from the whip holder attached to the fence and positioned it against Roxana's shoulder. When the mare noticed the whip against her shoulder, she bolted forward and pinned her ears. Every muscle in her body got tense. Sheila pushed Roxana forward. Her gallop was stiff and choppy.
"Are you insane Sheila?! You won't use a whip on that horse, she will..."
Sheila didn't listen to her best friend. The moment she felt Roxana wanted to stop in front of the jump she lightly clapped the whip against the mare's shoulder. That was enough.
The Zlesdin came to an abrupt stop and threw Sheila right over the jump. Then she reared and crashed the pole. Splinters of wood flew through the air. Finally, the mare ran off and jumped the arena fence. She did not run back to the stables though. She was headed towards the road.
Lillian called an ambulance and Owen to tell him to capture Roxana. The blonde climbed over the fence and ran towards Sheila.
"You stup... you idiot. I told you. Did you even think about the consequences for even a split second? Can you feel everything?"
Sheila groaned and tried to move her limbs. "Don't scold me now. You can do that later. I think my right arm is broken, it hurts like hell and I can't move it. And my head hurts."
"Yeah, you probably have a concussion, because you did not wear a helmet. Wearing a helmet is compulsory for you from now on. Otherwise you won't ride my horses anymore. The ambulance will be here soon. Don't move."
"Alright..."
--------------------------------------------
Sheila was lucky under the circumstances. Her arm was broken, but it turned out to be a clean fracture that would heal well. The concussion wasn't too severe either, but she had to stay in hospital for two days to ensure there wouldn't be any brain bleeding.
Lillian wasn't mad at her anymore, but she still scolded Sheila for her rash actions.
Owen had managed to capture Roxana with the help of Cadfael and Sairah. The mare had followed him without hesitation when he lead the foals back to the stables. She did not mind him removing the tack or grooming her either. Owen had to remove two splinters of wood from her belly, but they only needed treatment with salve.
When Lillian returned from the hospital she went to check on the liver chestnut mare.
"Oh mare, what is up with you huh?" She asked. Roxana poked her head over the stable door curiously and pushed her soft nose against Lillian's hand.
The blonde slowly stroked the horse's head, wondering about her behavior.
"I know Sheila did you wrong, but you have to forgive her. We need you, you know that right? You are our pride and joy, Roxy."
The mare snorted. Lillian could almost see the question marks in the mare's eyes.
"Damian won't come back Roxy. I know you must miss him, but he can't come back. He is..." Lillian couldn't help but tear up. "He is dead."
Roxana nuzzled Lillian's cheek as if she understood her words. Lillian hugged the mare's head.
When Lillian left the stables to go back inside, Roxy looked after her.
Gone, dead. The Zlesdin's best human friend had left her. Damian did not even say goodbye. How dare he? The mare shivered. He abandoned her. What did dead mean anyway? Lillian's emotional behavior must have meant he would be gone for good though.
She was saddened by the fact she had acted mean towards the other humans. The next time Sheila would come, Roxy decided to apologize to her somehow.
She'd definitely jump again. Obviously the other humans cared about her. She would forget about Damian. If he was able to abandon her, she would be able to abandon him.
Woo, art. Well, I tried. Came back from a workshop today and it was annoying and stressful. Happy to be home again. I may be willing to finally start my storyline soonish. I will explain what happened with Damian too. Just wait. And yes, Roxy sees him as a traitor, because he just vanished and left her behind in her eyes. Don't blame her, she's a sensitive horse.
By the way, no need to worry for Sheila. xD Only problem for her will be to not ride until the fracture has healed. ^^
Oh, and the jump is supposed to be transparent and pixel-ish. Kind of a barrier in Roxana's head.

Ooohh my, reading that story I had the feeling of impending disaster the entire time... hgnn... I'm glad it was 'only' a broken bone and a concussion for poor Sheila! Wheew! (She better be wearing a helmet from now on, hehehe x) )
This looks so gooorgeous, btw! Your style is so lovely, and Roxy is always a sight for sore eyes <33

Sheila is my disaster magnet. Poor thing. Or I better say Lillian's disaster magnet. xD
I'm sure she'll be a tiny bit more careful from now on.
Awww, thank you so much
