One Piece Live Action Spoilers Ahead!
I like their friendship, but romance-wise, not my cup of tea. I don't deny OPLA's changes, but I'm still not into it. They felt unnecessary; if the romance factor was removed, the story would've gone the same. Kuro would still try to kill everyone, after offing Merry; Luffy and the crew still would have defeated him, along with Sham and Buchi; Usopp still would have joined the crew after everything.
Yes, I know Oda himself had major creative involvement, and approved of it, but that doesn't change my opinion.
And personally, friend or not, I would have no desire to be romantically involved with someone who accused me of lying, slapped me when I tried saving their life, and let their butler/lawyer shoot me. But that's just my perspective. 🤷♀️ At least she apologizes during the battle, and somewhat tries to stop the shooting.
TLDR: I prefer Usopp and Kaya as friends, and their changes in OPLA were unneeded IMO.
Wow, that turned out lengthy. 😶 And yes, I do ship Usopp with my OC (so, so much; new OTP), but that's only a small factor in this opinion.
