Description
I was going to sell this old Russian lens on ebay tonight. Technically it's broken, and I have another like it. I took it out on a walk today to get some actual shots taken with it to put in the listing. Met a couple walking this brindle dog. They said he's part whippet, and that he's a rescue dog (as in I assume they rescued him). He's also a daily visitor in an aged care home. In any event I was surprised how well the lens performed in this shot, and so have decided to keep it.
I'm less crazy about the composition, as it looks like that out of focus object is coming out of his nose, but nevermind.

Yeah, those old Helios lenses have really nice and quite distinctive bokeh. Wide open they just turn any light source into a bokeh ball, and you can end up with hundreds of them; then in some of the older ones, they'll unpredictably turn into swirling patterns. Considering how old they are, they can also be amazingly sharp wide open, too, under the right conditions. Stopped down that bokeh gets kind of busy and jittery, though.
