After three days of this in a row, Utterson went to see Dr. Lanyon instead. Lanyon allowed him entrance, but he had changed. His hair was white as if from shock, and he looked terrified.
Lanyon told Utterson that he indeed received a shock, and that he would never recover. He also forbade Utterson to mention Jekyll.
Just weeks later Dr. Lanyon did indeed die. He left to Mr. Utterson a letter that was not to be opened until the death or disappearance of Dr. Jekyll. Once again Utterson was very worried.
