A major spoiler for the Wii/Nintendo Gamecube game 'The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess' - view at own risk.I love Midna's character design, both imp and true form, and I was lucky to find a great reference for it on here, here's the link: [link]
I think I've been a bit more ambitious painting this time, I went crazy with colour and shading, and even added a bit of a Twilight background. Also, this time I drew hands!
I used a reference for the hands, I'm not that awesome.
Sketched in Open Canvas, painted in Photoshop.
Took about 5 days.

I really like to do detail with this type of style, as it's pretty simple to convey, with the sharp lineart. Also, going over lineart is relaxing and fun for me.
I like that you like the symmetry, too - I was going for some sort of... religious icon thingy, like those paintings from the Renaissance, or maybe some time earlier, where the painter made the subject look other-worldy and serene. If you get what I'm trying to say, lol
I wish I could have drawn those hands from my imagination, but as you'd know, hands are a bitch to draw, so I used a reference.

I know what you mean about the Religious imagery, it really works well.
There's no shame in referencing the hands by the way, the greatest artists used reference regularly. Using it effectively is the tricky part and you certainly succeeded in that regard! Also, no prob's about the DevWatch, it's much deserved!

All I did was search stock photo sites for the perfect reference, found a couple, but the one I used worked a lot better. They're really small pictures too, so I had to rely on imagination. Stock photos = awesome.

Hmm, I guess it's not that important to try and be like a certain artist, just to make your own style and progress as slowly and surely as you can to become the best artist you can be, not to be jealous of other people's skills when your skills are different... know what I mean?
