Yeah, right.I have no problem with Super Smash Bros. Seriously. I love the series. I thoroughly enjoy beating on other characters with Marth or Link.
The only problem I have with the series is all the crap that gets spawned from it, whether it be weird pairings [hetero or yaoi] or the misinterpretation of characters. Most people outside Japan probably don't know the story of Fuuin no Tsurugi or Roy's actual personality, which, to the furthest extent, can be the polar opposite of how he's usually portrayed in SSB fanart or stories.

So, yeah. This is my rant in art form.
And I really don't like Al.

No, that's Al from the Hasha no Tsurugi manga, which was basically a manga created for Binding Blade but decided to follow a really Gary Stu OC rather than actually focus on Roy.Β

I learned of Fire Emblem, like many others through Melee, but I never thought he was pyromaniac or how he's portrayed as being the polar opposite of his true self.
I wish he would come back in a future Smash Bros game cause he was and still is my favourite. I actually liked him more than Marth or Ike.

I found this really interesting analysis that one fanfiction author did on the development of Marth and Roy's SSB character interpretations. If I remember correctly, her theory was that the Marth/Roy dynamic spread from the old Gundam fanfiction section, which declined in popularity right around the time that Melee came out.

I'm really agree with you here, even if Roy haven't really a personality in SSBM, except the fire things 8D Fans though it was the fire type personality, burned soul and spirit, and his young age doesn't help.
And the FE Roy is calm, intelligent and mature, maybe next time he will appear in a game he will looks like more mature
Also, I really really really love you for your comment about Al... He is a big clichΓ© and steal every battle of Roy, and every new characters in the manga are clichΓ© too, and then not so interesting at last

Haha, love this! I agree with your description. I try to stay faaar away from the smash fandom, because really, it's pathetic what kind of personalities people tack onto the characters that actually do have personality already. And it's not just Roy. Just look at what they did to Marth. -_-;

Honestly, I don't see how the fans got the crazy personality vibe off SSBM Roy. I guess they had to improvise a lot since you really can't get much character development from a fighting game. XD But still, I too am not a fan of the insane personality given to SSBM Roy by the fans. I've played FE6 and absolutely LOVE Roy in that game. He's so awesome and an intelligent leader. Even though I've yet to complete the game (still stuck on ch 21 T-T) I've seen enough of him in action to know this about him.

I think you're making a bit deal over nothing.
It's just different personlities but neither one is bad and they make Roy much more popular then most other Smash Bros characters.
Besides in my opinion SSB Roy is WAY better then FE Roy.

SSB is own series.
So people like the SSB Roy. That's how Nintendo portrayed him in Super Smash Bros.
Nintendo likes changing personality(Either it's good or bad).

Smash bros is it's own game, own series, and hosts it's own characters.
Everyone in that game has been portrayed differently.
Marth, Mario, Link, Ganon, Bowser, Roy, and everyone else was portrayed differently in Smash bros then in their own games.
Stop grouping Smash Bros to be the same as other series when it's not.
So stop whining about it. It's very childish.

I suppose the pyro bit came from the fact that the Sword of Seals displays flames in its critical animation.
Ike's personality in Brawl is somewhat similar, he is loyal to his friends and merciless (or at least unsympathetic) to his enemies. But people do tend to impose personalities on the Smash characters.
