It is commonly accepted that true happiness is something one has to work hard for (and maybe make the right connections along the way) but sometimes things just don’t quite work out even though all or most optimal conditions are met at some point…

Speaking of things not exactly going to plan, this rather gloomy-looking girl named Renee who despite being found to have SMA well into her childhood and having to use a powerchair that just so happens to be fitted so it holds her primary tool of trade, a drawing tablet PC, near her at all times, still took time to indulge her affinity for art by frequenting as many exhibitions as she could, experimenting with every shape and color her imagination can conceive of, taking on commissions to cover her health expenses and do her part in paying the utility bills of the small apartment she shares with her cousin and helper, all with decent success.

Yet despite all that something seems to have changed over the last few months. The well of ideas has seemingly run dry, completing commissioned works became more of a slog than it used to be and perhaps more pressingly, the increasing indoors time made her significantly more prone to dwell on the times she caught passerbys looking funny against their better judgement at her weakened limbs and visibly malformed torso or the conversations that started off awkward because someone on the other end initially assumed her tablet was a TTS device, in turn fueling a certain fear of the outdoors she was once so eager to spend time at.

So it was time for a change. Perhaps out of desperation more so than anything else she sifted through her old contacts to try and arrange a real-life meetup with a never-before-seen face just to make things that little bit more interesting. And sure enough, she set her sights on a certain recovering shut-in with whom she hasn’t chatted much beyond an old commission for some social media graphics…
