Description
This portfolio received a 5Hopefully this will be able to help you guys in some way! If you are creating AP 2D Design portfolio that focuses on computer generated imagery be sure to include different medias. My strongest medium is photo manipulation but I had to show versatility with other medias and programs. I explored typography, digital painting, vectors, and fractals. I highly recommend that you go out of your comfort zone and into new art territories.

Really great collection of work. I have been in studio drawing for the past few years but next year I've decided to try something new and go for ap 2d...your portfolio's a great reference!

Thanks! I took both AP drawing and AP 2d but found AP 2d to be the better of the two. It's less restrictive than AP drawing, you'll have a lot more freedom with experimenting with different media. If have an questions feel free to ask me. Have fun and good luck!

Ok cool. Seeing as how you got a 5, I guess I can put digital stuff in. xD I hope you don't mind me refering to this to remind me of the variety in things that are allowed in AP 2D. "Triple Time Trajectories" and "Emipre State" look very cool.

So is digital art allowed for the AP I guess? Because my school likes everything being done old school, no photoshop or anything.
And I love working with all the things you can create, especially with the design portion.
Like I really want to take a photo and make into typography and stuff like that.

In AP Studio Art you can use traditional and digital mediums as long as they suit the requirements of which specific art you are taking. For example, 2D Design is for graphic designing, typography, vectors, fractals, photography, etc. but the artist has to follow the principles of design. More information is available here: [link] . As for Drawing, the artist can create drawings or paintings in photoshop by using a tablet, and as long as they show "mark making" it is acceptable. For 3D Design, the artist can use which ever medium they want in their scupltures.
In the Breadth section, the judges like to see versatility and variety. A mixture of traditional and digital pieces shows you to be adept in a wide arrange of media. As well, times are changing, digital art is a new form of art. Some people view artwork done on the computer to be easier than painting on a canvas with brushes. Just because it was done on a computer doesn't necessarily mean it was easier, in fact it is just as hard. In the end, try talking to your art teacher and showing her what you want to do because it is your portfolio that you are creating. All I can say is go for it! Explore graphic designing, typography, even vectorization because it's a lot of fun and the results are worth it! I hope this helps. :]
P.S. Sorry for writing so much.

Really? Our art teacher told us that 2D design can include drawings and stuff, but Drawing portfolios are not allowed to have any digital work.

From what my teacher has told me, digital work is acceptable for both 2D and Drawing. Digital work is something that is often disputed amongst the AP teachers and the AP guidelines do not explicitly state anything about it. As long as the artworks follow the requirements, it should be acceptable.

Ahh, yeah my teacher is one of the ones who thinks you can't put anything digital into Drawing, he says if you have anything Photoshopped it goes in 2D

no it's fine, thank you so much!! I didn't have a whole lot of time to talk to my teacher about it, so this helps clear it up a little. The Collegeboard site just keeps going on and on about coming up with 'critically thinking' ideas and that this is an 'intensive course for hard workers'
Because that helps me so much. >_>
And I have a Tablet PC and I use photoshop for drawing/painting all the time. And vectorization is actually REALLY hard for me.

The collegeboard site is too verbatim and doesn't do a very good job on clarifying things. I was confused when I first read it for 2D design. To simplify it, they want see strong artworks that evoke a meaningful idea and have good craftsmanship. They want to see thought and effort in each piece. In your portfolio you could do tablet drawings for the majority of your work and do some photo manipulations or photography. For mine, I did mostly photo manipulations because that it what I'm best at but I did a few drawings, abstract art, and vectors. Try staying mostly in your art comfort zone but venture out every so often.
Also, be sure to check out the examples on Concentration because that is a good chunk of the portfolio. I posted mine on here: [link] but if you search on DA there are better ones than mine.
Feel free to send me more questions if you have trouble! I'm glad I can help! :]

So digitally painted works can be part of Drawing folder? My teacher told it should always go to 2D folder. I really enjoy drawing in Anime style. I do both traditional and digital but my teacher keeps on insisting that it has to go the 2D folder.
Does a drawing really have to be in 2D folder when it is in anime style?
for example:

Do they all go under 2D like my teacher said or can it go under Drawing section?
And I do not quite understand by the meaning "mark making".
would this be no mark making? [link]
But this would be mark making right?

I am sorry for writing such a long comment but I am really curious. My teacher seems like she is not so sure and college board did not help.
I would really appreciate it if you can help. Thank you!

alright thanks...and just regular photography is alright too, right?
Yeah, now that I check, it's on the little 'inspiration' sheet that my teacher gave me....

Photography is perfectly acceptable, it is its own art form. A lot of my friends did photography in 2D design, they did digital and black room photography.

Love all of it, but the one I like the most is Set In Motion.
One thing: Did you mean to spell "versatility"?

Thanks! Yup, I meant to spell versatility, I was typing too fast and did not proof read it before typing.
