More seem to take their place....I don't know how many people do -and I'm NOT(damn typos) saying to this to be fangirly, but I find Rumpelstiltskin to be a very relateable character. His innability to trust people entirely and fear to let himself be loved by another person is very familiar to me.....When you've gone through a shit load of crap in life you always want to keep people at an arms length from then on because you don't want be hurt by anything or one anymore and you don't want to hurt them either. When those people start getting closer to you more than you like you instantly start running in the other direction because it's scary as f***ing hell. It hurts even more when they tell you how much you're hurting them especially when that's one of things you were also trying to avoid doing.

"A splash of reality in Fairytale Land and a pathos invoking reminder of bygone days in our world." is what I'm often heard to be saying about him. I know from personal experience how hard it can be to learn to trust people again after going through something particularly painful, not to mention that painful thing was bullying (Takes a victim to know a victim. I didn't feel sorry when that petty Duke got his head twisted off by the Dark One.)
