The Acidweb Cavecrawler can be traced back to a common ancestor that it shares with the Spirepoint Gemspitter. At some point in time, the progenitor species diverged into both the Gemspitter and the Cavecrawler species.
These dragons spend their entire lives underground, and are slightly larger than the Gemspitter, but as a result of divergent evolution, they have gained and lost certain attributes. Unlike the Gemspitter, all members of the species hatch pure white and eyeless. They are quickly abandoned by their parent dragons as soon as they hatch and left to fend for themselves without their sight. Over the course of their first year of life, the dragon's skin darkens and thickens, becoming mottled to imitate their surroundings. During this first year, like the Gemspitter, their gem type is determined by what they manage to find and eat. Their eyes also develop during their first and second years. However, their teeth, without exception are made of black diamond, and so they are able to eat anything. They will also eat meat, such as rodents or insects. If offered fish or dragon nip, they will adamantly refuse, and sometimes even attack the offerer.
These dragons have developed the unique ability to climb any surface. They can effortlessly scale any type of material. They have also developed the ability to partially solidify and dribble out their stomach acids. They will often dribble threadlike strands of this corrosive, partially solidified acid all over their lairs. This is both a warning, and a defense from other Cavecrawlers. Only the Cavescrawler who created the web knows how to get through it unscathed. Each acid web is unique and not two patterns are alike. Cavecrawlers can also spit their acid at prey or enemies, causing intense acid burns and sometimes death. If you suffer a bite from this dragon, there is no saving the bitten part, and it will need to be amputated.
These dragons have no wings and are incapable of flight. Using their crystalline claws, however, these dragons digs and eat out tunnels miles and miles long. If trained, they can become accustomed to living above ground. They will, however, be happiest when underground.
