Description
Never played Animal Crossing, but Isabelle's too adorable not to draw. Although I know nothing about Animal Crossing, from what I can gather, she's from "New Leaf", and is the mayor's secretary (I know, I'm probably totally off, but cut me some slack). I assume the player, as their Villager character, is the mayor of the town? Well, anyway, I'm king of surprised the pictures of this pooch came out as well as they did considering I did the linework for half of them on a moving train.Here are more pics I've drawn recently:

Ah, like me (except that I also do the lines on the computer, my colors seem too bright, not like your looks that look soft)

I go a bit bright some times, but I have to consider which color tone will look right for the picture.

It is possible, I do not think to choose the right color tint according to the drawing, I just take the official colors and then there, which may seem too bright if the character has bright colors.

Fun fact: whenever I feel a bit down, I use this as a background for my PC, and it gradually cheers me up.
Literally, everything about this just makes me happy. Her cute expressions, the contemplative colors, the subtle background accentuating her character even more, her eyes being expressive and bright, her hair ingeniously combining her doggy ears while still retaining it's humanistic feel, it's all congenial and super pleasing to the eyes. Not too much, but just enough. The last panel is pure, unadulterated joy and it makes me smirk everytime. It's a picture that just gives off the vibe of "cuddle me!!"

I'm guessing Nintendo is trying to push her as the AC's new mascot. Have no idea why though, since the series has plenty of iconic characters to go with...

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Since 2001, before the first AC even released they were already trying to establish characters like Nook and KK as the icon characters, but then a couple years ago she showed up and now she's just in everything. I guess they're just cashing in on her success. She became more popular than previous AC characters immediately, so I suppose they jumped on the opportunity to lanuch the series even further into popularity.

Nintendo seems to be in some kind of "Girl Power" marketing phase. They're really trying to push female characters like Isabelle, Rosalina, and lately the Splatoon girls. And frankly, more power to them. But I think they're basically re-enacting the old mascot wars of the SNES/Genesis era, but with genders instead of animal races: They're creating female mascot to compete against their own male icons...
And they don't seem to be using the best marketing tactics either: Rosalina doesn't have much more personality than Peach or Daisy, yet she's pushed down our collective throat and Samus is being more and more sexualized, because that's apparently the only way for her to gain more success from Japanese male audiences (instead of, you know, making more GOOD Metroid games).

Yeah, I noticed the over-active attempt to include more girls. Sakurai even came right out when making SSB4 and said he was going out of his way to add more girls just for the sake of having girls (but that really meant "more anime, 'realistic' human girls", not famous Nintendo girls who look like Nintendo characters, like Dixie Kong or anything). I can understand the reasoning - female characters are always the most popular. Girls like playing as girls, and guys like playing as girls even more.

♥Yeah, Isabelle is the mayor's secretary in Animal Crossing: New Leaf on the 3DS. And yes, your villager is the mayor. And you can dress them up however you like.
