Description Fair Warning: This picture was drawn almost two years ago. That's why it's kinda terrible. LOL

MOVIE REVIEW:
I loved this movie and I highly recommend seeing it. But the musical fan-service montage (yes, this movie had an entire SONG dedicated to the girls in swimsuits <[link] >) was so ridiculous it took me out of the movie. It isn't too lewd for young eyes; but it might send a few young boys into early puberty.

BTW, I swear, the bucket of water gag wasn't my idea. Shaggy really does (platonically?) chase Velma with one at some point in the musical fan-service montage!
It's quite clear that the folks who storyboarded and/or animated this thing have the major hots for Velma. Don't believe me? Check out this screen shot (<[link] >)

The best thing about this movie and all the recent DTVs is that they have their own separate continuity. So you don't have to deal with any of the nonsense from Mystery Incorporated (i.e. Shaggy isn't an insensitive ass, Scooby isn't a jerk, and Velma isn't a dumb shrew).

The music in this movie is a lot of fun. The songs have a timeless "Beach Boys" feel to them that suits a Scooby Movie perfectly. And they're catchy as heck! You'll be humming this opening tune (<[link] >) for hours after you hear it (I know I did!). And I love the goofy animation that was used for the opening credits!

I only had two minor beefs with this movie...

1) The Fan Service: I don't mind fan service per se. But if the artists behind these movies insist on finding excuses to stuff Daphne and Velma into reveling outfits; they need to toss us girls a bone and find an excuse to make Fred wear a speedo or something. Just sayin'

2) Velma's increasingly pathetic love life: In this movie, Velma gets a new love interest (a forest ranger). And -surprise surprise- he's a creepy misogynist jerk that Velma can't stand the sight of. This poor girl just can't catch a break, can she?

Overall, this movie is worth a rental if you love a good animated romp and totally worth a purchase if you love Scooby Doo! I'd like to gush about it some more; but I don't want to spoil anything (the mystery in the film is done very well and it's fun to try to figure it out as you watch). Just be careful when showing this to young children. In addition to the girls in skimpy swimsuits; some of the monsters and chase scenes are pretty darn scary.

I like the love interest in this movie way better than the Phantosaur one...it was like she was in love with herself. Kinda creepy...

Ugh. I don't know what they were thinking when they designed the Phantosaur love interest. It's just gross to watch someone flirt with a guy who could pass as her twin brother.
**gag**

Twin brother? Ha! It was pretty much my first reaction on him when I saw some leaked screenshots before premiere! And my bro's first comment on a screen, showing the guy being taken to the police car was something like: "Has VELMA just been arrested"? (He was 17 back then and still, he did get confused by this guy's look!) I guess someone out there thought it would be funny but it turned out at least weird... ^_^
