This strain…

It was getting to be a bit too much. All the suspicion from that raven haired fool, all the smothering from my blonde follower, all the emotional strain of being god and all the mental strain from out manoeuvring the raven haired fool… all of it was a bit too much for me to handle… no sane person could do it…

'Does that make me insane?' I asked my reflection as I stared into the bathroom mirror

I stared expectantly at my reflection and it stared back at me expectantly… almost as if it was waiting for me to answer it. The bathroom was the only place that offered any release from these things… the only place where he could be alone and uninterrupted by the constant bombardment of the outside world…

'I think it does…' I muttered staring at my ravaged reflection

Outside I could hear the faint mechanical whir of the ten thousand computers L kept running, the constant chattering of Misa who if given a choice would have followed him in here, the squeaking of wheels as Watari drove a cart full of none other than sweets to curb L's sweet tooth and the pummelling onslaught of the rain as it slapped against the buildings windows…

'When will it end!' I cried still staring into the mirror 'I don't think I'm strong enough to take it anymore… I think… I think I'll break soon…'

Staring desperately now I waited… no answer… then as I turned my back…

'Of course you can take it… you're god…' the voice whispered quietly making me stop in my tracks 'no… we're god…'

I turned and gasped quietly at my reflection… only… it wasn't mine… this Light had red hair and red eyes and a wicked smirk… but he had the same clothes, he same hair style, the same bone structure… but not my expression…

'So… surprised?' Light asked me

'W-what the hell… I-I must be seeing things…' I gave a weak half-hearted laugh 'all the stress m-must be getting to me… y-you aren't r-really there at all…'

'Really?' he gave a dark snarling chuckle 'I'm not real am I?'

This was all too much now… first the stress… and now the talking reflection. I must seriously be going insane on the power… maybe I should… give up the notebook… give up this frivolous ambition of being god…

A snarl of fury interrupted my thoughts…

'Give up the 'frivolous' ambition… it's no ambition… it's something we have to do… call it destiny, if you will…'

'Not real' I said confidently still staring at the reflection

'Oh I'm real… as real as you…' he hissed

I stared at him as he continued to smirk knowingly at me…

'We're the only one who can clean this world of criminals and those who do wrong… so it's what we must do for the good of the world… it's already so unclean and chaotic… they need it'

'They… need it…' I repeated

He nodded at me and then… I was no longer staring at another reflection… my split personality… I was looking at myself…

'Yeah, we are god…'

I now wore the wicked smile my reflection had just seconds before…

A small sound came from deep within my throat it took me a second to realize the sound was a low vicious chuckle… it echoed around the room and around my mind…

I walked towards the door now refreshed and as ready as I'd ever be… I opened the door to a suspicious glare from L, a shriek of happiness from Misa, a slight gesture of greeting from Watari and a crack of lightning from nature…

I put on a smile as I faced the world…

The new world where I am god…
