So, pretty much everybody's seen the latest My Little Pony incarnation, right?Well, if you're a fan, you're probably rather painfully aware of how much the toys don't really look like the ponies they're supposed to represent?
Anyway. Rainbow Dash is my favorite character on the show. And she probably has the most inaccurate toy of the bunch. So, I decided to fix her. This is how Rainbow Dash SHOULD look. I customized her myself. She is re-haired with all her own original hair, except the red, which was too short for me to re-use. So I got some "Pomme d'Amour" Dollyhair, which was almost a perfect match to the original red, and used that instead. I also touched up the pinkish-maroon in her irises and reshaped the eyelash line to look more like Dash and less like Fluttershy, and tried to give her that "determined" look. I also had to touch up all the white on her, in her eyes and on her cutie mark. The decapitated Dash head there (which will belong to my ponysona) is there for comparison.
So, fillies and gentlecolts, I'd say this is at least 20% cooler, wouldn't you?
No, she isn't for sale. And I don't really have plans to mod and sell them because this took a lot of time and I have a real job and a life and other hobbies.
Lauren Faust is one of the few people that I would GIFT one of these girls to, though, for making such an awesome show. She's free to ask for one at any time.

The only ponies toy I've seen that I'd actually want to pay for (even the slightest innacuracies usually demolish any interest I might've had)
You did a brilliant job
random piece of possible criticism if you want it: her middle eyelash. It curves a bit much - compared to the others and considering, in the show, Dash's eyelashes are completely straight.

i know right? I have a Rainbow Dash figure and her colours are ALL wrong. so i'm trying to fix it two, but the mane is green and yellow, and her bangs are red, orange, and yellow, and her tail is blue and purple. Close enough. XD But great job though!

So after seeing this and showing my wife, she convinced me to go out, buy one, and try it for myself. It took me somewhere around 6 hours from start to (almost) finished; I still have to cut the hair.
I tell ya, having no experience (but a good grasp of the concept) with re-rooting doll hair, it was somethin getting the hair back in and in the style that I wanted. Since the hair isn't done yet I don't know exactly how it will look.. Hopefully it looks as good as yours does

And it makes me wonder; Why doesn't hasbro just change the designs of their toys a little so they look more accurately like the ponies from the show? Considering the amount of adult geeks who watch the show, they're bound to make thrice the money if they make some aesthetic changes to the figures.
The ponies from the cartoon (FINALLY!) have grounded personalities and stopped looking like random color swaps while the toys on the other hand are still these dull-eyed cookie-cutter dolls while the g3 ponies came in a wider variety of pose and expression...
In short, it's awesome that you made Rainbow like she should, it's not like hasbro cares to do the same ^^

Great job on fixing Rainbow Dash! I agree I was upset at how companies are spewing out what they think looks just like the characters on the show. Rainbow Dash is my absolute favorite, with Applejack and Rarity coming in close second. <3 They're all such great characters.

I just got my RD toy today, and I fixed her hair. The only issues are that there's only blue and purple on the tail,and no blue or purple in her mane. Mine is the exact same as yours, too. Could you tell me how you got the tail to be all rainbow and get the mane to have purple and blue? Thanks!

Yeah this looks much better. I was going to get the Dash figure, though i noticed the eyelashes were wrong, as well as the expression. I was still going to get it until i noticed the mane and tail didn't have all the colors in each. This is really how they should look. But, in case I do end up getting her, any tips on how to shape the mane?

I'm tweaking my Rainbow Dash-- I've never done anything along these lines before, so I just used ~customanon's instructions for trimming ([link] ) rather than doing a re-stringing/gluing of hair like you've awesomely done here.
But I was curious: did you use paint to add the extra line to her eyes? I think that adds a LOT of the character back in so I'd like to do it too, but wasn't sure if I could do that with just a fine Sharpie, some other kind of easily-acquired pen, or if I'd need to use some kind of paint (if it had been possible I would have failed painting in kindergarten, so I'm trying to avoid that).
