Description
HMX's XV spacecraft docked to ISS. Its barely bigger than a PMA!
Due to its very low mass, and the high force needed to trigger APAS's capture latches (1 ton for 80ms), it would have actually fired 4 cold-gas thrusters at the moment of docking to force itself into the port. That docking issue was part of why the COTS/CRS vehicles used CBM. Contractors originally proposed APAS, NASA said no due to required capture force, and LIDS/IDS wasn't ready yet. OSC proposed using UCCAS for Cygnus UCM, also denied when all spots were permanently used by ELCs. Originally, the first Cygnus demo mission would actually have been a UCM flight, but because of the redesign from UCCAS to CBM it was delayed, and ended up never flying since there wasn't demand past the demo mission
