Description

Although the manipulation of fire is something found all over the world, Svalgrad purposefully trains large numbers of Pyromancers: Magi who specialize in the manipulation and conjuration of heat and fire. Pyromancy is a venerable spiritual tradition; it is considered a direct communion with the Corvid Angel. It is also a powerful weapon against the undead, the greatest enemy of the Sval, and is doubly useful for survival in their cold homeland.

Young Pyromancers are apprenticed to a senior pyromancer found in their community. Once trained, a Pyromancer is required to choose a Vocation which leads to their Duty. Vocations of Pyromancer include: Lamplighters, who tend the lights in Svalgrad's towns and cities and often act as community elders, Hearthkeepers, who keep the fires lit in communal buildings, often serving as hosts, cooks, and caregivers, Perditors, warriors of fire who hunt wicked things and set their blades and bodies aflame in combat, Evokers, experts of controlling flame from a distance who act as living artillery and crowd control, and Transmuters, alchemists and scientific scholars who use fire and heat to transform matter and cleanse impurities. It should be noted that, when choosing a Duty, the esteem of being a Pyromancer gives one entry level officership in a military context.
