Description
While researching the different types of butterflies I discovered the Admiral species comes in many different shades, including: blue, white and red.
This version is a Red Spotted Purple White Admiral.

The stark contrast of the blue, white and black with orange spots made a very appealing subject matter. (Blue is also my favourite colour.)

I enjoyed working on the fine details, including the veins, web structure and the light to dark gradient . Trying to create definition from the dark body and dark scales proved difficult and was achieved using light washes of transparent white acrylic and black ivory line work.
