Thank you. These are dry pastels Elaine, combo of Rembrants and Sennaliers. I've actually spent some time refining this one (hopefully, not overworked) that I will post soon. Barrie

Look forward to seeing it - I start a pastel class at the art collage in the new year, I hope it will lend me some new tips and techniques.

BTW, did you pick up some Yupo when you were in NYC? If not, I can still send you a sampler. B

pathlost In reply to BRipin [2007-12-08 16:50:09 +0000 UTC]

Yes I did, one transparent and one not, however it embarrasses me to say I have not got round to using them yet although I considered it a few times - been too busy drawing rust on rough textured papers.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BRipin In reply to pathlost [2007-12-10 12:35:16 +0000 UTC]

I tend to use Yupo after a toiling for a long time on some piece that has turned badly and becomes frustrating. Then I pull out a sheet of the stuff and let myself go painting quickly and without thought to let out my frustration. Sometimes this total abandon, is what does the trick. Whether it is good or not, it at least unwinds me.
PS: You can wash most of the watercolor off, and reuse the stuff.

This is beautiful. I grew up right next to the Erie canal and was never able to capture it in drawing without it being boring. This is full of life and movement, well done!

What a coincidence - so did I, within a mile of the Erie where it met the Hudson and Mohawk rivers in a little town called Waterford (near Troy) - and you?

Murmuringmuse In reply to BRipin [2007-11-28 21:44:28 +0000 UTC]

A little town called Albion near lake Ontario and between buffalo and Rochester. It's very sad, there are many beautiful homes and old buildings, but it's all falling into disrepair thanks to Walmart and drug addicts. (Glad I got out of there!)
