I've got a hood from a company in CT, US - the originators, I think. While it is surprisingly comfortable(-ish), it renders the wearer *totally* helpless. Cannot even open eyelids, hearing is significantly muffled, and the opening over the mouth means even the sense of smell is almost completely gone.
It's the perfect gift for the claustrophile in the house

Now that's just darn cruel. 
I think the first hood of this design probably came from Fetters in London. I bought mine from Top to Bottom Leathers. Made of two layers of leather it has lasted me for over 10 years. In the past 5-10 years the leather hood market has been flooded by copies of these hoods from China. Some are very good - others not so good.
I believe the original intention was for the wearer to be made to smoke a cigar while wearing the hood.

Cigars. That was it. I met (and played with) the guy who made the hood I have. He made several other designs, with forced cigar-smoking in mind. I never did try that particular use for it, but the times I've put people in the hood, as long as they can stay calm for that first minute or two, they end up loving it, and when I take it off, they inevitably have this big, goofy grin, and are just kind of mentally floating. It's a fun treat to give someone.

No. I bought it on eBay. The original design has been copied repeatedly. Beware Chinese copies. Cheap pricing may be for a reason.

I agree. Only very rarely do I get caught out with Chinese manufacturers. In that particular photo the hood was from ebay and the straitjacket from McHurt in Germany.

Ambrosia is in the early stages of her training and I don't want her distracted in any way other than the overhead suspension, which is new to both of us.

I really never became too excited about suspensions every since I saw an accident some years ago. I have no problem with proper supports. I have been trying to educate many over the years to the fact that hooks (especially threaded eye hooks) often pull out in time! We only use much heavier duty welded steel plates secured to beams with lag bolts when building dungeons or devices meant to hold a person weight!. These types of plates do not pull out in time. Safety is always on my mind!

That looks amazing. Too late for the complicated girl. But, one woman who writes me periodically, her Master has her wear white noise headphones. Years ago they used to be very expensive to buy but these days it is possible to pick one up relatively cheaply on sites such as ebay.
