My mind screams "this is what I think" in so many ways. Nicely done, though in my opinion, if you'd like to make it more dramatic, phrases like these are best delivered in greyscale

Thank you! I did try putting it in greyscale, but to me, and as a few people have mentioned, the red really brings out the emphasis in the statement. If the day hadn't been so colorful (bright green leaves, a nice warm sun) I most likely would have done greyscale. Thanks for the input, I appreciate it (:

I've seen the idea of the quote in the game Mirror's Edge as well, in a sense - it went something like:
"We'll survive; it's what we do."
"Survival is overrated. You've got to live a little, too."
^_^ On the tree, it makes me wonder if the message is supposed to come from the 'viewpoint' of the tree, or that of the assumed writer -- is the tree a prop, or a speaker? But then again, I guess for a plant surviving is just about the extent of living, as far as I can picture it... Anyways, I think the fact that it inspires thought is another strong point of this piece!

My dad told me that this morning when we were going for a run. I was going ungodly slow, and told him I was just trying to survive... and he screamed, "I don't want to survive, I just want to live!!" And sprinted away. We'd already done 5 miles at that point. I was pretty much dead. So I stopped and went back to the car.
