Guys, I get it. I know Ryo was a character in many video games and that his appearance here and in Tamers are all linked up due to those video games which where only released in Japan. I've done the research I get it, (If you're interested: [link] ) I got it when I posted this. However, I made this a wicked long time ago, when I was re-watching season 2 of Digimon. I was like 'Who the Fruitloops is that? ... RYO!?'Though you can't tell me it's not kinda cool to actually see Ryo sneaking into Season 2 like that, and I mean look at the outfit! Did he go exclusively to gap for some sweet pastel polos? I have to say I like the Tamers design better, but still cool to see him there.

Digimon Adventure 02
When Ken first got sucked into the Digital World, he met Wormmon and Ryo. The storyline behind it reflects the game to some extent as Ken & Ryo defeated Millenniummon. However, Ryo tended to Ken's injury from the Dark Spore before sending him back home.

I find it natural that he'd wear more "boring" clothes before all the multidimensional weirdness.
He is also in the episode with the dark spores and THE MOVIE, you briefly see him during the diaboromon incident.
I sorta like it that he's there, it means that the first two and the third season are still somewhat in the same universe, which suits my personal headcanon just fine cuz the first three seasons were the part that were epic.

I'm a bit surprised when I saw Ryo in Zero Two, since I started watching Digimon Zero Two in the second arc and went on to Tamers. I was curious about his appearance in Tamers that makes me think "Wait, I think I seen this guy before." and I checked back in episode 22 and there he was. And I was like, "Man, this kid is really powerful. He's a dimensional-hopper!"
Being in the Asian region, it's a common knowledge for Digimon fans that Ryo was originally from the Adventure universe based on the games. Not many people outside the fandom knows the reason why he can appear in two shows that had nothing to link it except the WS games. Too bad this backstory doesn't get the light of producers of both shows to explain in detail about these scenes being put into that Ken-centric episode, until it confuses the children and Western audiences.
Now come into Tamers, about the part that mention Adventure and Zero Two was just a tv show in the Tamers world where kids supposed to watch it, that's not true. That statement was put into the dub version, to make it seems that Tamers is as real as the real world situation where Digimon was a big media franchise. Actually the show that Takato and the other kids watch was a random Digimon show without any mention of the name of the season.

Very interesting and invormative, I'd heard or read most of the Ryo stuff and wish we had gotten the Digimon Adventure games here (in the West) with Ryo. I would have loved to play it! And it would have been so neat to see my character from the game in the TV show, I'm sure that would have made the whole show about X10 more awesome for me as a kid. But as it was I was just left feeling very confused until I re-watched Season Zero two after seeing Tamers and went... Wait a second... is that? RYO?!
But Yeah. Enough said about that, I was very surprised that they had changed the original concept of Tamers with only a few sparse dialogue changes, so that Digimon was TV show in the tamers Universe. Which as a kid I thought was a brilliant idea! But growing up I've cone to realize it's actually a pretty cheap cop out and not really necessary or logical ot the plot. However, I did not know that Digimon were supposed to be known as real. In that case it makes me very interested in the show again, to the point where I might have to give Tamers a re-watch with that in mind. Since I think that greatly changes my perception of the plot.

I think that Digimon Tamers should be watched again by fans of that show and also others who aren't familiar with it to discover more about the secret of the Digital World itself and how it's came to be. Actually, if I remember correctly from an internet source, the four Heavenly Guardians are the ones that protected the gateways to various dimensions and multiverse of the Digital World. Qinlongmon guards the Adventure universe, and Zhuqiaomon guards the Tamers world. The other guardians must have probably the guardians of the remaining universes probably Frontier, Savers or Xros Wars.
I don't know why, but I get a feeling that we had conversed about this subject before, didn't we?

Probably yeah I get into this topic a lot XD Since there is so much about digimon I know, and yet still don't know, so it's always fun to hash things out with other fans since I always find myself surprised by other peoples information or insight.

Considering how big a part Ken plays in Zero Two, you would think that they would give his back story more time.
Also, apparently Davis V-mon was own by Ryo, but he does not recognize Ken for some reason.

Can't blame V-mon for not recognizing Ken with the longer hair and the emperor costume, tough.
Now imagine if Davis went to visit Ken and stumbled upon an old photograph in his room...

That might have been true at first, but unless kids named Ken that also have wormmon as digimon partners are in high abundance;
I would say that there is no reason that he should not have recognized him.

Such strange inconsistencies in the show. I was so wishing for more backstory on Ken. I mean don't get me wrong I LOVED the episode all about his history and such, but I was like... that's it? But? isn'tt here a little something more about.. you know... the whole time when he was in the digital world! But *shrugs* I suppose for half the audience they might have played the games and known, but for those of us who didn't with kind of a let down.

With Ken and Ryo floating around, I cant help but wounder if Millenniumon was meant to be the final big bad of Digimon zero Two.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think that there is a more powerful bad guy in all of Digimon.
Vamdemon is a chump compared to him; Millenniumon revived Vamdemon and he was defeated by Ryo well before the first episode of Digimon Zero Two

Good point, and I always really liked Millenniumon as a villain anyway. He just seemed so on top of his game at all time (just about).

I WAS JUST RE-WATCHING THAT SEASON TODAY AND HAD THIS EXACT REACTION!!!! Just "OMG, RYO?!?!? HOW'D YOU GET THERE?!?" I literally went back 3 times to check, then called over my sister to make sure I wasn't being insane. I was so excited to catch it xD But seriously, why was he chillin' there with little Ken? Forever a mystery.

Yeah I've done a lot of research, but I still found it very cool to actuakky see Ryo in Season 2, I remember when I first watched the show I noticed Ken had someone with him in the digital world, but for some reason I just kinda wrote it off as his brother or something when I was a kid. Since you only see Ryo for about a split-second. Watching ti again recently I was just floored that it was actually Ryo. It's a very situation that I wish I had known more of when I was a kid, because Ken was probably my favorite character, and he has a long dark past that is only partly explained. His time in the digital world as a youth was only touched upon. If anything I would have loved to see a short film or something by the digi-crew that would have explained that one screen-shot a little more.

I liked Ryo for his Japanese actor, but when I found this out I really started liking him for his character.
It's a real shame they never went in depth with Ken or Ryo. Especially since he did so much. The saddest thing is, the original eight knew about this and never mentioned those events.

I have heard that it is explained in a digimon game on that bandai handheld console they made. I think it is because he was chasing an evil digimon and he was taken to the season 3 world and at one point was offered to go back to his old world or stay in the tamers world. He chose to stay.
I think thats what happened. I don't know. I haven't played it. It was only released in Japan.

I believe that's about right, I mean I'm not sure myself, since I didn't play the game, but it is just so interesting to see him actually in Season 2, I was just kinda baffled and amused. But also kinda cool that that one character can somehow exist in 2 completely different realities. I mean in Tamers they refer to the Digimon adventures as just a TV show like every other kid that's watched digimon up to that point, thus the appeal of Tamers. BUt yet Ryo exists in both the show and reality?
