When I saw photoes of the highway as a kid, I was extremely disturbed by the resemblance to, say, American civilian vehicles fleeing on a highway, like in a disaster movie.

it is similar to T-55, but a further development of Type 59 (and here it is, copied from the Soviet T-54A)
superficially resemble those tanks
on the Soviet T-55 are not fastened side skirts, a laser rangefinder the other structures, and lights are not on the shelves above the track, and the front armor plate.
At the T-55 anti-nuclear protection is installed, this was removed in front of the ventilation of the pickup charges (on the Soviet T-54 and China TYPE 59/69/79 and the light tank TYPE 62 ventilation in front of the feed charge is set)(in principle this is the main difference from the T-55 T-54 and Chinese counterparts))
I hope, explained clearly))

I knew some of the guys who helped make the Highway of Death... They were the ones that called in the F-15E's that blocked the convoy in hitting lead and rear vehicles, then proceeded to coordinate with the Apaches (not sure if there were A-10s involved though). Needless to say, it was a bunch of armor in a nice neat line, and the wet dream of every attack pilot, FAC, and Forward Observer.... Poor tactics on the part of the cream of Iraq's army under Saddam.

Man Sudsy I love hearing Military history from those that lived it.
I cant imaging the idea of have all your forces bottled up like that,it goes with out saying Saddam was not a military tactician just a idiot.
A small segue way my father work on and designed the tracking components in the F-15 Eagles back the early 1980's

Its always a pleasure to run into those men and women who made history! In my case, it was one of the first Senior NCO's I worked for at my first duty station.

No matter the part we played, or witnessed in some cases, its always great to be a part of history, especially as Winston Churchill put it, to be a part of the punctuation of history ("wars are the punctuation of history")! My father used to teach F-15 avionic when he was in the Air Force... Interesting... Going to be sad to see those old birds retire!

Well said Sudsy.

Way back in 1978 they had a open house at Northrop (where my dad was a elc. engineer working on the Eagle)It was so damn cool walking around seeing mock ups of chain guns seeing cutting edge computer graphics(i still remember how it looked ...) and the fact that my dad's office was behind a blast door was the coolest.
I even got a coffee mug that had the(SR-71) Black bird logo holding two lighting bolts.it had the words "electronic countermeasures" on it and when you put hot coffee in it the Bird disappeared and the words turned red.

funny to think how old the F-15 are.
