Description
Two new paintings started a couple of days ago. Only on the first couple of layers at the moment so still a lot of work to go, they are quite messy up close, looks much better at this distance.
Oil on birch
90 x 90 cm and 120 x 90 cm

Amazing progress for just a couple of days - wish I could move forward so quickly! I'm interested to know about the wood you use. Is it birch in plywood form, pre-treated, etc?

Thank you, I work very fast when I'm motivated, and after having two weeks off from painting, I was pretty keen to get back into it. I'll go a lot slower from here with all the detailing.
This wood is a 3mm birch panel mounted on a 30mm pine bracing. It's the first time I've used it, I ordered them from a different state and got them delivered all sanded and ready to be primed. I'm in the process of trialing a few different timbers

Thanks for the info. I have mainly used canvas so far, with just a couple of pieces done on (homemade) marine ply on pine frame. I would be really interested to know details of the one you find to be 'best buy', because I found the making of the panels was hard work and didn't give as professional a finish as I would like. Ready made panels next time!

Yeah I was making my own prior to this, and I was never entirely sure what type of timber was being used in my plywood, but I've just signed an agreement with a gallery so I thought I better start paying more attention to those kinds of things, I'm trying Birch (which seems to be really hard to get a hold of here) and I'll be trying Luan ply later this month and I'm still researching to find what else I can give a go.
So far I'm loving the birch, it's very smooth and no defects, and having them ready made is so much nicer, hassle free and they are perfect, I can barely see where the panel joins to the bracing

Thanks for info. I will have a look around and see if I can source any from UK suppliers. Think I might use existing work on ply to try and perfect resin coating technique!
