Description
Hi Papercrafters! This is a project we were working on a few weeks ago, it is the famous Dark Lord of the Star Wars Saga. Darth Vader by the great duo Noturno-Sukoi
It isn't an extremely difficult model to build but it has some design details that have to be solved in flight. Even so it's a model that can't be missing in any collection
The difficult parts, helmet, breastplate and cloak, because of that the model retains its original size without reduction. I hope you like the result.
Technical data:
* Papercraft model by Noturno-Sukoi
* Printed on opaline paper (125 g/m²), photographic quality, original size.
* Acrylic paint to eliminate white lines of joints
* Matte spray varnish, semi-matt and glossy liquid varnish
* Led and battery for light saber.
* Base of painted cardboard.

Thank you so much!
Well papercraft is a quite unknown art for many people, it's a very small niche but we are quite perseverant

Thats an awesome model, but im a bit confused. Do you have a hand in designing the kit it or do you bend and paint paper?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
BRSpidey In reply to pansolo73 [2017-03-01 22:52:07 +0000 UTC]
Well most papercrafts starts as a digital 3D model, then is optimized with some programs to be able to build on paper (polygon reduction, collision elimination, unfold). Once you have the unfold, these templates can be printed on paper, the next thing is to cut the pieces and put together as a three-dimensional puzzle.
Unfortunately I am not a designer and I only work on the models that other people have already unfolded . But that doesn't mean that I can't make a paper model look like a plastic figure with paint and varnish
.

Boy... this is amazing! And that lightsaber... how did you make it glow like that??? (I know... LED and battery, you did say that. But I don't know how you can turn the thing on and off and where the wires... )
Anyway... I am in awe of your prowess and your engineer hands. I need to bow to your superior crafting skills!!!

BRSpidey In reply to SinistrosePhosphate [2017-03-01 22:37:27 +0000 UTC]
Hehe, I had to think of a way to hide the circuitry long before the model was printed. All wiring passes through the arm, torso and leg reaching the base where the battery and the switch are hidden. The switch is hidden in one of the corners of the base. I just had to use my "engineer brain" to plan a better assembly strategy .

That's amazing! Totally cool!
I dreamed about building this one: lh4.googleusercontent.com/-0u9… but with a little light at the bottom so it would light up. You've given me some really cool ideas! So... thank you, Engineer Brain!
... of course, I am too far away from actually making this into a reality at this moment.
But yes! Some time in the future!!!

BRSpidey In reply to SinistrosePhosphate [2017-03-03 19:56:26 +0000 UTC]
Yep, that was much easier than planning my DeLorean without a doubt
Oh that's cute! Nice choice
But as always I have other preferences in regards to designers, like this one for example: img04.taobaocdn.com/imgextra/i…
I have always wanted to make a model with illuminated acetate sheets, these models seem very appropriate for that idea .
I'll look forward to the realization of your idea!

SinistrosePhosphate In reply to BRSpidey [2017-03-03 22:30:40 +0000 UTC]
I need to tell you... I got the idea after looking at this little figurine: www.e2046.com/p/20794
And one of the person who assembled it together also had a light at the bottom to create that extra icy shine. I am in love with it!
But this is plastic and resin. If I can create this with paper it would be great, too. I think Cirno's designs really lend itself to having light decorations because of all the ice. (And thanks for showing me that model, too. I might need to attempt that one too... ) So all in all... yes: Cirno, papercraft... lights. I have no idea when it will be done, but one day! One day it -will- be done!

Woooaa it's beautiful!
I've always wanted to work with translucent paper, but I think glue stains are a detail to be solved .
But it's possible to create a glow effect with low weight paper, as in this paper: Skull Mario Halloween Papercraft
I think another worm is coming into my head!
For now, cheers for brainstorming!

SinistrosePhosphate In reply to BRSpidey [2017-03-05 03:29:02 +0000 UTC]
Glue stains are a big problem with translucent paper... especially when it is usually not thick enough for us to sand down the stains later. It's either we have a very, very accurate glue delivery system, or we need to wipe away the undried glue very very fast. Either way, that's a lot of details to figure out.
I love that glow effect! How low weight is that low weight paper anyway? 20-30lbs?
I would love to know what kind of worm is going into your head. And you are more than welcome for the brain storming session. I have to say I learned a lot, too!

BRSpidey In reply to SinistrosePhosphate [2017-03-13 19:08:59 +0000 UTC]
I know, even with my super-syringe with glue , it's a bit difficult to keep the paper free of glue stains.
I don't know how much weight is in pounds , but I remember it was 65-70 grm paper, and one high intensity LED!
But it's a bit early to let those ideas out, they're just ideas and they may not see green light soon .
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
SinistrosePhosphate In reply to BRSpidey [2017-03-14 02:01:05 +0000 UTC]
Absolutely. I try my best with my smaller projects but the glue stains are hard to eliminate. And I thought that I was just inexperienced!
High intensity LED! Got it! That's a great idea.
But you are right. I still have a few dioramas that I would love to build. I have fallen in love with castles! So I am thinking... when I settle down again, I'll be building castles... in my own castle!

BRSpidey In reply to SinistrosePhosphate [2017-03-18 20:08:51 +0000 UTC]
Well, sometimes it doesn't matter how much experience you have, there's always the possibility of making rookie mistakes . For example Vader I made
, I made the mistake of applying spray varnish the same day I applied the sealant for the paper... result: a completely white and frosty cloak
I was very good with dioramas , I remember that my grandmother bought me templates to make houses and factories when I was about 8 years old. I think I started there my first steps as papercrafter and I hadn't noticed
.
And if castles are what interests you, I have an idea that maybe someday you can come true

Just to decorate the living room of your own castle

SinistrosePhosphate In reply to BRSpidey [2017-03-19 05:19:40 +0000 UTC]
Oh, yeah... Rookie mistakes.
I know that quite well. I applied the varnish on my Bates House after I have put the plastic windows in. As a result all the windows looked dirty and fogged up. It's like no one has washed those windows in 100 years! Oh, well. That's the lesson I had to learn, the hard way.
I think I started out that way, too. I remember building little paper houses and towns when I was a child, too. I never really thought of that as papercraft, but I guess you are right!
... er... you completely over-estimate me, my friend.
How in the world do you think I can make something like that happen?!?!?!
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
BRSpidey In reply to SinistrosePhosphate [2017-03-23 18:05:25 +0000 UTC]
Yep , that's one of the most common mistakes, that's why everything that is transparent should be placed at the end.
Maybe we were already papercrafters , or fate was already pulling the strings
.
Do you think you couldn't create one of those castles? I think you could do it with patience and perseverance , but let's talk about it later, when you have your own place where you can exhibit it
.

SinistrosePhosphate In reply to BRSpidey [2017-03-23 21:04:55 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, exactly.
I know better now. I will try to not make these kind of mistakes in the future. It's probably going to be hard, but I hope I will remember that in the future!
... you never know. I think we are led down this path by fate. How else would we have met each other here, become friends and start doing each other's paper craft...?
... Well... When I looked at the picture I know I had seen it before. And I also remember saying to myself: "This is impossible! Who can do something like that?" I think that sentiment is still with me today. But it -is- worth a try in the future when I can have my own place to work. You never know... anything is possible in the future, right?

BRSpidey In reply to SinistrosePhosphate [2017-04-06 21:58:01 +0000 UTC]
Well don't worry , you surely will make many more and different mistakes... the question is how you'll solve them?
I would say it's a huge coincidence ... but they also say that "God creates them and they come together" so maybe we belong to the same race (... of paper
)
Well to be honest I didn't see myself cutting paper and creating collectible figures, that was one of my most distant dreams, but now many ask my advice on how to improve their models and techniques to put them together, so you never know what the future holds .
I've planned a different type of castle, but it will take all my years of experience in this paper art... so that will be my "impossible" for now .

SinistrosePhosphate In reply to BRSpidey [2017-04-07 02:58:27 +0000 UTC]
Oh... there are ways to solve problems like this. And I will come up with them eventually.
Heaven knows, I've already been thinking about it!
I think we belong to the same tribe, the Tribe of Paper! We were meant to swim in paper, you and I. There are a lot of coincidences in the world, but humans are built to look for patterns. And there it is, a pattern!
I have a lot of "impossible" things I want to do. I try hard not to talk about them, because I want to surprise the people around me. But I know of some very devout Buddhists, and I have always wanted to recreate one of the Buddhist sutras in paper-cut. I have seen people who do icons, but never scripture. I think it's going to be one of those really, really "Impossible" things that I would love to do in the future. But in the meantime... I need to be better!
