I admit that I've been having feelings of inadequacy about my artwork again, feeling like many others are making definite progress with much to show for it while worrying that my own art has perhaps stagnated, so I thought I'd try and push myself to draw Bru Badger in a different style, a more detailed one than usual. It was inspired by looking at photos of real-life badgers as well as some other artists whose detailed styles have impressed me; I guess it's most noticeable with the head and face here, but maybe the rest isn't really that different. While this style may have more detail, I'm unsure if it's truly "better" than my regular, more cartoonish style - drawing in this style looks like it'd take longer to do, as well as harder to keep consistent (I think I could be a long way off from a simple/cartoony style that just really "works"). I guess there are plenty of other things I ought to improve such as backgrounds, digital work and shading. Coincidentally, one of my friends has posted some similar style experimentation work aiming for a more realistic look on the same day I'm uploading this.Related content

Hey BruBadger, I could see that you're currently revamping up your fursona? Well so far it looks well done here and I could see the direction you were aiming at. But upon your request, I shall do an in-depth critique for you.
Vision) While everyone's very much familiar with how BruBadger appears in your works and according to your talent, it's a very nice attempt to go off the normal path and do something rather unique and the added details of a real badger (big nose , wedge shaped head) is a nice touch! I think you're onto something big here.
Originality) Outside the furry fandom, there's not many badgers on today's media, aside from a few book sources like "Redwall" and some Disney movies. So, with that said, I'd probably do more research on the badgers both from photos/google and study carefully how the fur brushes out and how you could translate what you see into your fursona.
Technique) Although this is just only a concept, I think your rough sketches is yielding good results, also I noticed unlike most cartoons, you went with a touch of realism and gave your fursona 5 fingers on each paw! That's rare to do and I'm happy you are making your character more and more unique from other badgers =3
Overall Impact) I'm giving you 3 and a half stars out of 5! I think you're on the right path when it comes to remaking your fursona and the more you practice, the better your characters are going to be!

I think the design has turned out very well here mate. I do really love the detail of the fur and overall design of the character (e.g. ears, nose). I think he does look cute, you done a very great job here man, very well done!
