It's always the month of May in Wonderland. While little Alice8 loves to take off her shoes and socks and run barefoot in Wonderland's beautiful flower-strewn meadows, she doesn't ALWAYS do it. Sometimes she really does prefer to keep her pretty, if fussy, mary-jane strapped slippers and sweetly ruffled ankle socks on her feet. It's always May in Wonderland, not July, after all. The weather is as kind to feet wearing lightweight slippers and thin cotton socks as it is to bare feet. On this particular day, Alice stopped off to make daisy-chains, without showing any particular desire to bare her feet. Her shoes and socks, being somewhat bored decided to take the matter into their own hands (?) and pull themselves off her feet of their own accord. Alice didn't much care one way or the other. Bare feet are just as comfortable as shoes and socks in the mild spring weather.

But after Alice gave up on the chains and trod barefoot over to a nearby bower swing, the shoes and socks came back to watch her. She was soon engaged in swinging joyfully up and down. giggling with glee. Her bare little feet kicked up on each swing, toes curling cutely with the swinging cadence. The shoes and socks looked on somewhat ruefully at all the fun Alice's bare feet were having. One sock, with its turned-down cuff forming a pouting lip, said to the other, "that looks like fun. Maybe we should have stayed on Alice's feet!"
