Description
JessiBowen posted her own reflexions on that piece oh her page.
Masks And Mirrors
Ethan Hawk, both pragmatic and logical, has a dark demeanor that mirrors the nature of his work. Dedicated to the greater good, he never hesitated to take part in the state's covert operations, often involving morally grey areas. ["Regrets? Leave them behind and move forward; the homeland awaits our duty."] He had never been motivated by money, fame, or glory and certainly was not one to decay into bureaucracy. Yet, preserving one's innocence within a corrupt system proved to be a daunting challenge. His regrets were now piling up—his best friend had died in an operation he had orchestrated, and he found himself relying on his deceased friend's daughter as an agent, who was as brave as her father. ["But this was our mission..."] he repeated to himself over and over, yet he couldn't help questioning, ["Am I keeping her close because I love her? How do I love her?"] He knew he couldn't afford to let these romantic thoughts interfere with his judgment. He was no poet, nor did he ever wish to be one.
The night and darkness felt innate to him; they were his natural habitat. Alone and solitary, enveloped by the night—or so he had always believed until now. ["Who was I waiting for, the half I thought didn't exist? Or have I found my match in this game? Do I believe her, and even worse, do I just want to believe?"] The unsettling notion that he might soon become the prey rather than the predator briefly flitted through his mind, but he swiftly shook it off as he readied himself to meet the blond woman. From her, he anticipated learning a great deal.

That small extract was inspired by the fascinating piece by JessiBowen called "The Three Boxers."

Some of you might not be aware of this gifted woman; she is a forger of feelings, perhaps sometimes the wildest ones, using a harmonious poetry of words. However, upon checking her page, be ready to play a hard "hide and seek" game because she hides her real gems in the most unexpected places. I was lucky enough that she showed me the generosity to give me a treasure map. Above you can find the link for her mini story.
Undoubtedly, a literary work is as much the reader's as it is the author's, shaped by the reader's internal journey. Each person will draw different insights from this short story. For me, even with three characters present, the story was fundamentally about loneliness. Loneliness manifests in various forms; sometimes, it's the absence of just one person that casts a pall of solitude over us. Alfons de Lamartine encapsulates this emotion in the unforgettable phrase, "un seul être vous manque et tout est dépeuplé," translating to "one person is missing, and the whole world seems depopulated." This sentiment reflects the profound emptiness that stems from missing just one individual. At times, not even a surrounding crowd can shield you from loneliness, similar to two souls wandering, lost not in translation, but in their solitude amidst Tokyo's bustling streets. Yet, this loneliness and sense of alienation dissipate like a vanishing dream upon awakening, disappearing when you finally find the missing piece you've been searching for.
Another point I'd like to emphasize, beyond the shaping of the literary work by the reader's own experiences as mentioned above, is the reflection of the author's life experiences and genuine emotions onto the work, which constitutes another, perhaps even more foundational layer. The line between reality and fiction blurs and disappears through the skill of the author. Infinite thanks to you, JessiBowen , for being the muse that breathed life into Pinocchio. This is an experiment regarding the "Rashomon effect" that, we conducted with her.
