Brutonyx — A very speculative thing

Description All started with a sentence in the book All Yesterdays about the spiky triceratops:"While we are not suggesting that this was the definitive look of this animal, it wouldn't surprise us if Triceratops, OR OTHER, LESS-EXPECTED DINOSAURS bore a covering of spiky hairs". So yeah this is the same thing of triceratops but with a different dinosaur, in this case Ceratosaurus. Actually Ceratosaurus has been prooved to have been covered in osteoderms, so in this interpretation the osteoderms were the basis of long, cheratinous spikes and Ceratosaurus was primarely a scavenger, while bigger theropods like Allosaurus and Torvosaurus were alpha predators. So Ceratosaurus has developped many features designed to scary off bigger theropods from their kills: the nasal and lacrimal bony horns were the basis of long cheratinous colourful structures, the neck has a blue dewlap, the arms have long carnous membrans and the back has long spikes, all of this made the animal very scary. Also the spikes could have worked as a defensive mecanism against would-be predators. The animal has also an uropatagium on the legs (like psittacosaurus), and a sort of carnous flip under the tail. This could have worked not only to scare predators, but also to swim, catching small aquatic preys (the tail of Ceratosaurus has been prooved to be very flexible, like that of a crocodile). All these brightly coloured structures could have been also used to attract mates, and as a sign of sexual maturity. The hollow nasal cavity is based on the turkey vulture.

It is definitely a 'thing'. I actually cannot discern what dinosaur that is

It's supposed to be a Ceratosaurus

Ah okay. I didn't mean it as a bad thing. I love the art piece, however, I didn't know what it is. Very speculative indeed
